Roach says Mosley won’t be able to handle Pacquiao’s workrate

By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach feels his fighter Manny Pacquiao will be able to out-work 39-year-old Shane Mosley on May 7th. Mosley doesn’t throw as many punches as he used to, so Roach is probably right about Mosley not being able to keep up with Pacquiao’s work rate.

In an article at Ringtv, Roach said “I don’t think Mosley can stand out work rate. That’s why I told Manny, ‘Don’t forget the body in this fight because the body shots will take those legs away quicker.”

Well, actually Pacquiao probably doesn’t even need to go to the body to beat Mosley. Floyd Mayweather Jr. rarely threw any body shots last year in his fight with Mosley and he still beat him by a lopsided 12 round decision. And Sergio Mora, who fought Mosley in September 2010, didn’t throw a lot of body shots and he ended up handling Mosley without too many problems. Although the fight was ruled a draw, many people saw Mora winning that fight. Mosley looks old and pretty much shot.

Unless Pacquiao slips a ton before May 7th, he should win this fight no matter how many punches he throws. But, yeah, Pacquiao is going to out-work Mosley but that’s kind of a given, isn’t it? You pick an old guy out that’s hitting 40, I’d say the chances of out-working him are pretty good. Now I’d like to see how Pacquiao does against someone like Sergio Martinez, Alfredo Angulo or Erislandy Lara. Oh, I forgot. Pacquiao probably won’t be fighting them because won’t be fighting anymore bigger fighters after beating the slow as molasses Antonio Margarito for the catchweight WBC junior middleweight title last November.
