Fury wants Chisora to be stripped of British title: Is Tyson looking for an easy path to the title?

By William Mackay: Rather than sitting and waiting until British heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) takes on IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) on April 30th before getting his shot at his British strap, the 22-year-old Tyson Fury (14-0, 10 KO’s) wants Chisora to be stripped of his title so that Fury could fight for the belt against one of the other contenders.

Speaking to thesun.co.uk, Fury said “I want to fight for the British title. Dereck’s after the world title but is not even the best in Britain. They should take the title off him and make me fight for it.”

I don’t see the wisdom in hoping that Chisora is stripped of his title, because that only mean that Fury will get a meaningless belt because the guy that he faces for the title won’t be as good Chisora. What’s the whole point in fighting for straps if you’re not going to be facing the best guy for the title? It’s common knowledge that Chisora is the second best heavyweight in the UK after WBA heavyweight champion David Haye. Why would Fury be interested in facing some lesser heavyweight for the British title instead of Chisora? This reeks of fear. It makes me think that Fury doesn’t like his chances of facing Chisora and trying to beat him and instead is hoping that the title will get stripped so he can pick it up easily.

Fury beat the little known Marcelo Luis Nascimento by a 5th round knockout this weekend. The victory seemed to really go to Fury’s head, as he got really cocky afterwards, calling out Chisora and David Price. Fury needs to take a good look at the caliber of his opponent rather than thinking he beat a top tier fighter. I’d hate to think what Fury would be saying if he actually beat a contender. The guys’ ego might really skyrocket if he beats a bottom feeder.
