By Chris Williams: When they finally come out an announce that 39-year-old Shane Mosley is Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent I’m going to have a good laugh. This is starting to become so predictable in picking out opponents for Pacquiao. I’m still baffled that Antonio Margarito was selected as Pacquiao’s last opponent. I would have never thought in a million years that Pacquiao would face that guy, not after the hand wrap issue he had gone through only a year earlier. Margarito didn’t even have a boxing license, and yet he was able, through a lot of searching around, to get one from Texas.
If you ignore the hand wrap issue alone, it’s hard to imagine that Margarito was selected based on his two previous fights against Mosley, which he lost, and a fight against some unknown guy. In the bout before Margarito, Pacquiao fought Joshua Clottey, who was coming off a loss to Miguel Cotto. I didn’t understand that fight especially given that it was on pay per view.
How can you ask people to pay to see you beat up on a guy that was coming off a loss? And now it’s looking like Pacquiao is going to fight Mosley. I don’t understand that fight, because Mosley hasn’t win a fight since beating Margarito last year in January. I don’t know about you, but that pretty much disqualifies him in my eyes as a PPV opponent for Pacquiao. If you’re going to match Pacquiao up with opponents and ask the public to pay big money to see him, you should at least have him fighting guys that are actually still winning their fights and not losing.
