By Dan Ambrose: Former four division world champion Roy Jones Jr. 54-7, 40 KO’s) says he’s interested in fighting WBA heavyweight champion David Haye and heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek. Jones sees both of those fights as exciting bouts for him. Jones, 41, has lost his last two fights to Danny Green and 45-year-old Bernard Hopkins. The thought of Jones facing either Haye or Adamek is kind of off putting given how faded he’s been looking for the past six years. I’d hate to see Jones fight those guys, not that I see Haye and Adamek as being great fighters.
Indeed, I think Haye is a paper champion and Adamek nothing more than a contender who will never win a heavyweight title as long as the Klitschkos are around. But both of those guys at least good enough to beat what’s left of Jones at this late stage in his career. He doesn’t take a punch like he used to and he can’t pull the trigger on his shots. I can see Haye choosing an easy fight with Jones rather than taking on one of the Klitschko brothers. Haye seems to be more interested in milking his title rather than taking on any big challenges.
Jones will likely end up facing Adamek rather than Haye next. In an article at Eastboxing.com, Jones said “Tomasz Adamek is a much bigger fight, much better fight, and a much smarter fight than Michael Sprott. So when Tomasz Adamek stepped to the forefront, he became the front runner. The only person that would be over him would be David Haye, because he has a title.”
It’s sad that Jones is still fighting, but even sadder if someone like Haye or Adamek agree to fight him.
