By John Dimeck: As an ardent boxing fan, I have been saddened the last few years at some fighters and promoters avoiding trouble by not making the big fights that the fans would like to see. Avoiding and dodging dangerous opponents has become the modus operandi for some supposed warriors out there.
That’s why Carl Froch is such a breath of fresh air for true boxing fans; not only can he mete out devastating power punches, but he can also take a good dig too, and yet, as many true boxing followers have known for a long time, he has some pretty slick skills to go with those other attributes – just ask Arthur Abraham!
You’ve got to hand it to Abraham, he is as game as a badger and does not back down, unlike Andre Dirrell, who also started this super six tournament but mysteriously withdrew rather than fight Andre Ward. Although he’s probably wishing he would’ve gotten in the ring with Ward on Saturday night, after seeing the awful performance Ward put on against a very pedestrian opponent. Having said that, Dirrell likely would’ve held and held and thrown himself on the floor, like he did against Froch, when he was not dashing away that is, like some kind of scared non-fighting person. The great thing about Froch -is he’ll fight anyone, unlike Dirrell, and he brings it every time. I was watching the fight camp 360 Episode 8 (part 2 of 2), when asked some questions about his injury Dirrell’s grandfather suggested he may want a lawyer present!! What’s with that!
Anyway, make of it what you will, even before Dirrell’s symptoms started, there were media whispers that he just did not want to fight his friend Ward, whatever the case, it does not look like he avoided that much based on Saturday’s showing.
Froch is flying the flag, not just for the Brits, but he is making all boxing fans proud again, at a time when MMA entertainment has boxing on the ropes a bit, Froch is fighting back, it’s hard to see him being beaten anytime soon, no wonder he doesn’t really bother ducking anyone – he just beats them up! After Johnson and Ward, I feel he’ll avenge himself against Kessler, easily, and then maybe Bute and Pascal before retiring – can you see Dirrell taking on THAT kind of schedule, or anyone else for that matter, other than Froch. There’s a bit of a psycho in him, mixed with some deadly skills, and we should get a few more years of great fight entertainment out of this man.
