Booth says Haye prefers Wladimir

By Sean McDaniel: Adam Booth, the trainer/manager for WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s), says that Haye prefers to fight Wladimir next rather than Vitali Klitschko. In an interview at Sky Sports Ringside, Klitschko’s manager Bernd Boente said that Vitali is available to fight right now this minute.

But instead of agreeing to that fight for Haye, Booth said that Haye prefers to fight Wladimir. Booth went on to say that they can start negotiations with Wladimir the after his fight with Dereck Chisora on December 12th.

This may not result in a fight, however, because it looks like Boente is saying that Vitali is available right now and Wladimir isn’t. Also, for the fight to happen, Haye’s team will have to agree to put their British pay-per-view money into the pot for a 50-50 deal.

It’s unclear whether Booth and Haye are ready to do that. If not, Boente said that the Klitschkos will move on and face Tomasz Adamek and Nikolay Valuev. Boente says there is no deal unless Haye and Booth agree to a 50-50 deal with all the money.

It looks like Booth and Haye feel that they stand a better chance against Wladimir rather than Vitali for some reason. And it looks like the Klitschkos want Vitali to be the one that takes Haye out rather than Wladimir. It could be that they’re afraid of Haye’s tendency to get in close and throw bombs while his opponents are trying to clinch. It may be that Wladimir would have a hard time beating Haye because he likes to clinch a lot, and Haye does well against fighters that clinch.
