By Jason Kim: Rather than responding with anger to Floyd Mayweather’s vicious racist UStream video, Manny Pacquiao has decided to take the high road, saying in an article by Dan Rafael of ESPN, “I just heard about that, but I didn’t see the video. But it’s an uneducated message. I’m not looking for that fight. I’m satisfied with what I’ve done in boxing already.” Mayweather might have shot himself in the foot with his video, because it failed to impress boxing fans and even sickened many of Mayweather’s own fans.
At this point, it wouldn’t be surprising if Pacquiao chooses never to face Mayweather. If I was Pacquiao, I wouldn’t even consider fighting Mayweather until he makes a public apology for the racist things he said. I doubt Mayweather would do that, but that’s why Pacquiao should just forget about fighting him in the future unless Mayweather apologizes.
In the video, Mayweather said “I’m on vacation for about a year, about a year. As soon as I come off vacation, we’re going to cook that little yellow chimp. We ain’t worried about that. So they ain’t gotta worry about me fighting the midget. Once I kick the midget ass, I don’t want you all to jump on my d***. So you all better get on the bandwagon now. Once I stomp the midge, I’ll make that mother f***** make me sushi roll and cook me some rice.” This is pretty disgusting language. I can’t see how Mayweather’s sponsors would want to stay with him after this, and I don’t see the point in Pacquiao fighting him anymore unless he does some serious apologizing.
If Mayweather has issues with Pacquiao, then he should be willing to step in the ring and settle things instead of playing all these games. I don’t know how Bob Arum feels about this, but hopefully he’s not going to continue to try and put Pacquiao in with Mayweather. I would forget about that fight and focus on other fighters from here on out.
