By Sean McDaniel: Coming off of his disappointing but promising 12 round decision loss to Tomasz Adamek last weekend in New Jersey, Michael Grant says he thinks that Adamek needs to go after the Klitschko brothers immediately if he wants to have any chance at beating them because of the wear and tear that Adamek is going to be experiencing to his body from the punishment in facing the bigger heavyweights in the division. Speaking to Newjersey.com, Grant said this about Adamek’s chances against the Klitschkos: “If he [Adamek] can get this shot with a Klitschko, it has to be right away. He can’t sit back and wait until two years from now to fight them. It has to be within the next six months, because his body is going to take a beating against bigger guys.”
Grant speaks the truth. Adamek is too small and not a big enough puncher to be competing against the bigger heavyweights. He doesn’t have the power to take out the big guys, which means that he’s forced to go 12 rounds to get his wins. That bad thing about that is it means that Adamek has to take 12 rounds of punishment, even against the mediocre oppositions be’s been put in with since he moved up to the heavyweight division last year.
Adamek is still getting hit along in those fights and he’s not reacting well to some of the shots. Maybe he’ll get used to it in time, but it doesn’t look like he will. Adamek may take on Lance Whitaker in November. Whitaker is a fighter that is around 10 years past his best. It’s another winnable fight for Adamek, but one where he’ll absorb punishment if he can’t find a way to take Whitaker out. Adamek probably won’t get a shot against the Klitschkos in 2010, because both of them have busy schedules that won’t allow them to be free for a fight in November. Wladimir will be coming off of a fight against Samuel Peter in September and won’t be able to ready in time for a fight in November, and Vitali has a fight in October against Shannon Briggs.
