By Scott Gilfoid: The September 25th Super Six stage 3 bout between Andre Dirrell and WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward may not be taking place on September 25th, according to Boxingtalk.com. With little more than a month to go before the fight, the venue for the fight still hasn’t been decided, tickets aren’t being sold, says writer Hector Linares. It makes sense that the tickets aren’t being sold because the venue still hasn’t been worked out, but yeah, they need to find a venue for this bout and quick. Ideally, the bout should take place in Detroit, Michigan, because Ward has already had two fights at home in Oakland, California, whereas Dirrell has only been at home once.
The one time that Dirrell had to travel a hostile country, he lost questionable 12 round split decision to Carl Froch in Froch’s home city of Nottingham, England. Many people still think that Dirrell should have won that fight. I think that’s reason enough to make this fight in Detroit. Also, Ward has no pressure on him for this fight, because he’s already guaranteed a place in the semifinals of the Super Six tournament. Dirrell, though, still has to win to make it to the semifinals. He needs to be at home, just so that there’s less of a chance of him being on the receiving end up another controversial decision. Dirrell doesn’t need to fight at home to win or to get an extra edge, but he can’t afford to lose now because some judges can’t get the scores correct.
