Mayweather isn’t interested in fighting right now

By Chris Williams: Boxing’s huge cash cow, Floyd Mayweather Jr. came out today in an interview with AP, telling them “I’m not interested in rushing into anything right now.” There is it is. Mayweather is basically saying ‘back off, give me my space. ‘ What is it with these people trying to rush Mayweather into another fight right away when he just finished making a killing, earning $40 million in his impressive win over Shane Mosley on May 1st.

That was a win that would be enough to satisfy most fighters for their entire career, but for Mayweather it was just another day at the office. Ever since Mayweather defeated Mosley, Pacquiao and his promoter Bob Arum has been trying to get Mayweather into an immediate fight for November.

They need to let the man rest. He just won two back to back fights against the best lightweight in the world with Juan Manuel Marquez and the fighter that many people felt was the best welterweight in the world in Mosley. And Mayweather made it look easy. People don’t need to worry about when Mayweather will be fighting Pacquiao.

He’s going to fight the guy, but he’s going to do it on his own terms. Mayweather will be the one that dictates the date, the venue, drug testing and the purse split. That’s just the way it is. If Pacquio wants to fight Mayweather, then my advice is for him to be ready to take the full random blood tests, not the 14 cutoff business.

Mayweather is going to want the whole thing. And with the financial split, you can count on Mayweather wanting 60-40, which I think is a good deal for Pacquiao. After all, he won’t make money like that no matter how many times he fights Miguel Cotto.
