By Dave Lahr: You have to respect the the expertise and the knowledge of WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward. The guy knows his stuff and probably will end up winning the Super Six tournament. He seems have a pretty good eye for picking winners. In an interview of Ward by Geoffrey Ciani at East Side Boxing, Ward says “My pick is Floyd Mayweather Jr…Pacquiao get hit a lot. The Joshua Clottey fight, a lot of people complained about the lack of offense from Joshua Clottey, but when Clottey did throw his punches, he landed. We saw it on Pacquiao’s face after the fight and trust me – Floyd’s going to be doing that and then some offensively.” I totally agree with you, Mr. Ward.
I said the same thing myself after watching Clottey lighting Pacquiao up like a Christmas tree in their fight last March. Clottey landed whenever he wanted to and had Pacquiao’s face looking bruised and battered by the end of the fight. Luckily for Pacquiao, Clottey didn’t throw a massive amount of punches because many agree that Clottey would have knocked Pacquiao out if he threw anywhere close to 1000 punches. The punches that Clottey did throw connected much of the time and had Pacquiao’s head snapping this way and that.
It was sickening some of the uppercuts that Clottey landed to the head of Pacquiao. It was like he couldn’t miss with his shots. If you look at what the limited Clottey was able to do to Pacquiao, and then substitute Mayweather, a much better offensive fighter, in Clottey’s place and you can only come to one conclusions – Pacquiao is going to get royally stomped by Mayweather on November 13th. It won’t be pretty, believe me. It’s going to be a bleak day for Pacquiao fans, who will be helpless to do anything to save Pacquiao from what is an almost certain beating.
But Ward is absolutely 100% right – Pacquiao does get hit a lot. He’s like a Filipino version of Ricky Hatton, leading with his face as he comes plodding forward. Pacquiao used to be quick on his feet when he fought at super featherweight and lightweight. Not anymore. He looks like a bloat, and moves like a slow heavyweight now. All Pacquiao is throw a lot of short punches and doesn’t seem to be concerned with trying to aim his shots. He just seems to mindlessly throw them, as if he hopes for the best. That kind of mindless fighting will never work against a great fighter like Mayweather. He’s going to pick Pacquiao apart and make him look like a rank amateur and beat him black and blue.
