Image: Klitschko slaughters Sosnowski, says he wants Haye nowPhoto credit: Pavel Terekhov – By Scott Gilfoid: Fighting in front of 60,000 mostly Klitschko fans, WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (40-2, 38 KO’s) destroyed challenger Alberto Sosnowski (45-3-1, 27 KO’s) in a 10th round TKO on Saturday night at the Veltins Arena, in Gelsenkirchen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. I couldn’t in my right mind give Sosnowski one round of the fight – that’s how bad he looked. Vitali put an end to the slaughter in the 10th round after depositing the 31-year-old Sosnowski on the canvas after hitting him with a hard right hand. The fight was stopped at 2:20 of the round and Vitali had yet another easy title defense.

After the fight, Vitali said perhaps the 100th time that he wants to fight WBA heavyweight champion David Haye. I hate to break this to Vitali but I don’t think there’s a chance in hell that happening in this lifetime. Vitali looks too damn good and I don’t think Haye wants any part of Vitali or his brother IBB/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. And I don’t see Haye as someone who is capable of being pressured by Vitali, the media or the fans. He’ll pick who he wants to fight, and my guess he’ll go looking for Audley Harrison next, then Ruslan Chagaev, Nikolay Valuev after that and then someone low down in the heavyweight pack after that.

I don’t see either of the Klitschko brothers figuring in Haye’s plans for the remainder of his career. Instead, Vitali and Wladimir need to see Haye as someone like Valuev, who held the same WBA title for awhile, but who feasted on easy opposition until he lost his title to Chagaev. I see Haye as following in the same footsteps as Valuev, so Vitali needs to get his dignity back and move on already.

Forget about Haye, just fight the best fighters that the WBC has ranked and pretend that Haye doesn’t exist, because he probably will never fight Vitali or Wladimir anyway. Calling him out is a waste of time, as you can see by Haye’s silence. The thing of it is once the Klitschko brothers stop talking about Haye, he’ll probably come out of the woodwork and resume calling them out and namedropping to get attention in the media. Namedropping works.

Vitali had an easy time with Sosnowski, hurting him with right hands in the 8th, 9th and 10th rounds. Before that, he looked to be using Sosnowski for a glorified sparring session. It kind of reminded me of how I used to spar with the younger people on my team when I was involved with karate. Vitali looked to be taking it easy on Sosnowski, that is. Until the 8th round. Then he hurt Sosnowski with right hands, and stalked him like no tomorrow. Sosnowski looked like a deer caught in the headlights. He had been the one going at Vitali for the first seven rounds and only having to deal with his jabs and short hooks.

Vitali was now throwing big right hands and giving Sosnowski all kinds of problems. In the 9th, Vitali hurt Sosnowski again, this time late in the round with three straight right hands to the head. The crowd really got into it, and Vitali looked away from Sosnowski, waiving his right hand to the crowd before tagging him with it to end the round. In the 10th, Vitali put the icing on the cake by hitting Sosnowski with two huge right hands that drove Sosnowski back, staggered him and sent him down. Referee Jay Nady stopped the fight without giving a count because Sosnowski, bleeding from the side of his left eye, was too hurt to get back to his feet.
