‘No Mas’ for The Hitman?

By Shaun Campbell: Reports late last night surfaced that according to friends, Ricky Hatton has decided against his proposed comeback to the ring. The Hitman who has not fought since his dramatic loss to Manny Pacquiao last May, was planning one last go to end his career on a win. But now it seems that Hatton has performed a U-turn on his decision and called off any plans for fighting again this summer.

Hatton apparently told friends on a drunken stag night in Tenerife that he was done, and was going to call it quits when he returns to the country. Arguably the most adored fighter to ever come out of Britain was knocked out dramatically in the 2nd round of his bout with pound for pound king Pacquiao. After a long decision he stated that he would be making a comeback to silence any critics and that he felt he had more to give. But now Ricky seems unlikely to lace up the gloves again. His family are attempting to find out what the news is about as they have heard nothing about it.

The general reaction from the boxing world will be pleased to hear that Hatton will retire, if these statements that have surfaced in the last 24 hours are true. The Hitman is loved by many, and no one wants to see him make the mistakes of other fighters and go on too long. Another fight could damage his health and his reputation. It seems as though however that Hatton is ready to settle down as a regular on his pub darts team now. Whatever his decision his fans will support him all the way.
