Image: Miguel Cotto-Felix Trinidad: Felix says he’s up for the challenge- NewsBy Peter Wells: In very recent news according to news in Puerto Rico, the once great Felix Trinidad is interested in fighting fellow Puerto Rican former World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Miguel Cotto. Tito was a legend and one of the best boxers on the planet, but his career went to pot after being embarrassed and knocked out by Bernard Hopkins. Tito’s last fight was a 12 rounds point’s defeat to Roy Jones Jr at 170lb catch weight.

Trinidad will be happy to fight at anywhere between 158-164lbs. Miguel has been looking to move to 154lbs anyway so a catch weight of 158lbs wouldn’t be much of a problem, but it would be one hell of a problem for Trinidad.

Unfortunately for Trinidad he is way out of his depth here, he says it will be his career ending fight, and I tell you now, it sure will be. There isn’t much of a chance of this happening, Bob Arum doesn’t get along with Don King whom is Trinidad’s promoter, but who does Bob get along with, apart from himself? Cotto doesn’t need to fight Tito, despite all the talk in Puerto Rico, no one else would care. If only this fight had have taken place about 4 years ago. Now it just won’t happen, no one cares and Felix would never make weight. A complete mismatch and it takes 5 years for Bob Arum to get a fight sorted out, if he ever does get the fight going.

Miguel Cotto has plenty of other options and there would be nothing in this fight for him, no title, although he would probably get a good sum of money. If Trinidad has any sense he will hang the gloves up for good, or fight someone at Light Heavyweight not Middleweight.
