Could Tyson Still Compete With The Top Heavyweights?

It’s been two years since former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) retired from boxing following a particularly embarrassing 6-round TKO to the mediocre Kevin McBride in June 2005. However, at the time of the loss, Tyson, now 41, had reportedly not been training correctly nor had he been taking care of his self in a proper manner. If, however, Tyson were to get his head on straight and finally start taking his training seriously, could he someone make it back to the top and perhaps win another title? Of course, it would be monumental task if he were able to do this, as he’d have to forgo all his vices, whatever that may be, and truly deticate himself to boxing full time in order to make it all the way back.

However, with his still awesome power, which he demonstrated in his exhibition bouts with Cory Sanders, Tyson would still have the knockout power to make it to the top. The hard part would be for him to work on his stamina to get it to the point where he can fight hard for more than one round before tiring out. In his last couple of fights, losing efforts to Danny Williams and McBride, it was painfully obvious clear that Tyson really only could fight hard for no more than one round, before suddenly hitting the wall and becoming pooped out. That, however, is an easy thing to work oh, as he would only need to work extra hard on his stamina by going on long runs and working on endurance training in the gym. He still has all the boxing knowledge in his toolbox with which to use on the lesser heavyweights in the division, which pretty much accounts for all of boxing.

Aside from the four heavyweight champions, there’s few fighters that could last more than a round with Tyson. However, it would be imperative that Tyson be able to fight hard for at least eight rounds because most of his opponents would be playing possum in the early rounds, waiting for him to tire before pouncing on him. I think it’s doable, if Tyson can get his head together and get serious about boxing. At the same time, Tyson would make a huge bundle of cash, perhaps enough to pay off his huge mountain of debt that he owes to his many creditors.
