Floyd Mayweather(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Boxing Muse: Two of the biggest fights of the year are one day away! You are about to read my predictions. These are views of my own, I am a fan of the sport not a particular fan of the participating fighters therefore I have used unbiased intuition and my knowledge of the ‘Sweet Science’ in order to try and predict the outcome of these excellent fights.

Please feel free to follow me on twitter @BoxingMuse and post me a question or comment on my predictions (negative or positive).

Lucas Matthysse vs. Danny Garcia

This match-up is hard to predict, people are seriously underestimating Danny Garcia but at the same I time I believe team Garcia have miscalculated Lucas’ boxing ability. The boxing general public seem to be favour the Argentine and so do I but this is no easy victory for Lucas. With so much on the line both men start cautiously but gradually find their range then both men start to land measured power punches on one another but both warriors absorb these shots well. With each round that goes by the fight becomes more grueling, violent explosive combos are thrown and landed by each man but now the science of boxing goes out the window no more thought for defense, footwork or tactics. Brutal punches are landed on each the button on each fighter but Garcia’s pride keeps him in front ‘The Machine’ one too many times. Danny gets tagged and badly hurt, a stoppage comes either by the referee or the 10 count. Head coach and father of Danny, Angel is a controversial character and many people dislike his crude nature but he is cares about his son too, it is distinctly possible that Angel Garcia may stop the fight.

Matthysse wins via KO/TKO in 10-12 Rounds

Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Saul Alvarez

The opening rounds provide the spectators & judges with little to split between these two.

Anxious, measured and cagey work from both men until around the fourth round, when Canelo throws caution to the wind by turning up the tempo, applying more pressure which in turn provides Mayweather with counter-punching opportunities. Floyd uses razor sharp speed and sublime footwork to out skill his young challenger, Alvarez lands some impressive shots but none on the button as ‘Money’ stays out of harm’s way 95% of the time. At times Floyd decides to stand his ground and refuses to move back, Canelo is landing forceful shots on Mayweather’s shoulders and arms and anywhere he can. Floyd feels the bigger man’s power enough to make him revert to his defensive game plan. Frustrated and slightly fatigued Canelo closes out the fight as the aggressor while Floyd is picking Canelo off with some picture perfect shots. The scorecards read; a split decision to Mayweather Jr. Two judges are accurate in their evaluation of Floyd out boxing Canelo while one judge has the Mexican up by a point or so as they obviously appreciated Alvarez’s pressure.

Mayweather Jr wins via Points (Split Decision)
