By Scott Gilfoid: At Wednesday’s press conference, 32-year-old former heavyweight title challenger Dereck Chisora (26-6, 18 KOs) tossed a flimsy table in the direction of his opponent British heavyweight champion Dillian Whyte (19-1, 15 KOs) after the two of them had words.

It looked much rehearsed with the way that Chisora got emotional all of a sudden and picked up what appeared to be a plastic table and toss it. I don’t know what the other tables were made of, but the one that Chisora threw appeared to be an ultra-light plastic table.

It’ll be interesting to see how this explosion by Chisora is talked about on social media and twitter. Will it create interest in the boxing world and make big news or will the fans see it as little more than a well-rehearsed play designed to get the fans interested in his match against Whyte. I know what I think. It looked pre-thought out rather than something done on the spur of the moment by Chisora.

The winner of the Chisora vs. Whyte fight will be the mandatory for WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. It’s unknown why the World Boxing Council is allowing the Whyte-Chisora fight to be an eliminator because neither of these guys is rated highly by the WBC. Whyte is ranked #10 and Chisora ranked #11 with the WBC. In other words, they’re both fringe contenders.

After Chisora threw the table, he was immediately surrounded and corralled by a large group of what appeared to be security. There was some pushing going on, but Chisora never attempted to dash past them to get to the younger, heavier and some would say stronger 28-year-old Whyte. It’s perhaps a good thing that Chisora didn’t, because Whyte appears to be the better of the two fighters in the talent department.

Whyte said this to skysports.com about Chisora’s table-throwing show:

“Me and Dereck both know [what would happen] if we were left in a room with no security,” Whyte siad. “When I stepped to him and threw punches, he was scared. You have two security guards and they both got manhandled. You lost the battle already. In the Sky studios, you cowered away. The man bit me on my chest, who does that? I squared up, moving my head, expecting him to throw punches, and he didn’t do anything.”

Chisoria did a lot of screaming after a very calm looking Whyte while the security was surroundning him. I wouldn’t be surprised if Whyte’s pulse rate was no higher than 80, because he looked like he was ready to laugh more than him showing any kind of fear from Chisora’s explosion of temper.

The good thing is that the two fighters were kept apart, because even well-rehearsed outbursts can result in injuries if things go a little too far.

I don’t see why Chisora is bothering with all the theatrics for the Whyte match. It’s not as if the British boxing public is focusing a heck of a lot of their attention on this fight. IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua’s fight against Eric Molina seems to have absorbed most of the fan interest, even though it’s a terrible mismatch.

The fans want to see Joshua fight Molina, so that he can get to a much bigger match-up against 40-year-old Wladimir Klitschko on April 29 next year. The Chisora vs. Whyte fight is just picking out a guy that will be facing WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder at some point in the distant future. My guess is the winner of the Whyte-Chisora fight will need to wait until 2018 before they get a shot against the 6’7” Wilder.

“This is how it is, man. I do what I want, when I want. He might want to box instructions but I don’t want to, I want to drag him into the deep end,” said Chisora to skysports.com. “Are you sure you want to kick-off right now, because if you want to – it can.”
