Tyson Fury: You saw 60% of my arsenal against Klitschko

fury444111By Tim Fletcher: Newly crowned IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) says he only revealed 60 percent of his entire arsenal tonight in edging Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) by a narrow 12 round unanimous decision to win his titles by the scores of 115-112, 115-112 and 116-111 at the ESPIRT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.

“I put on a good boxing display tonight,” Fury said to IFL TV after his win over Klitschko. “I can do better than that. That’s not everything I’ve got. That was about 60 percent of what I have in my arsenal that I’ll display in my next fight. It will be a little bit more. No, not really. It was not a big upset. A big upset would be someone who never had a chance. Tyson Fury was always going to be the heavyweight champion of the World,” Fury said.

I’m not sure that Fury realizes how bad he’s making himself look by saying that what he showed tonight was 60 percent of his arsenal, because Fury looked like he was showing only 5% of his arsenal in the fight.

Fury did not look good in winning the fight, and he wasn’t landing a lot of punches or connecting on a high percent of his shots. It was a case of Fury winning because of Wladimir looking so much worse than him. Fury wasn’t doing much to make Wladimir look so bad. It was a continuation for Wladimir from his last fight against Bryant Jennings in why he was looking so bad.

Fury, 27, will get the opportunity to show 100% of his arsenal in his rematch with Wladimir next year, because Wladimir’s brother Vitali Klitschko has already said there will be a rematch between Wladimir and Fury. Vitali expects Wladimir to be better in the rematch, and better prepared. If Fury is going to be 100 percent for the second fight, then that should increase his chances for him to win the fight a second time. But you can count on Wladimir throwing more power shots in the second fight, because he knows that he can’t afford to fight in the same manner as he did this time around.

With the way that Wladimir had problems throwing his left hook, it’s unlikely that he’ll bother throwing a lot of left hooks. But there’s not stopping him from throwing his jab and right hands in the second time around.

Fury has a lot of options if Wladimir chooses not to fight him again. Fury can fight the winner of the Dillian Whyte vs. Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder, David Haye, Vyaceslav Glazkov, or some of the contenders in the division depending on whether he’s able to make a voluntary defense.

Fury and Klitschko need to step it up in the rematch because they looked so poor tonight. If Fury can’t perform better than he did tonight, then he might not be able to hold onto his titles. For Wladimir, if he can’t improve on tonight’s performance then he should retire and save himself another embarrassing loss. Wladimir looked like the shell of the fighter he once was tonight. It wasn’t because Fury was so good either. It looked more like the case of Wladimir no longer being the heavyweight he once was.
