Image: Golovkin - Lemieux: What will be the deciding factor?By Yannis Mihanos: Power in the ring of politics is about influence, power in the ring of boxing is about punching. Possessing immense power in punching is one of the best gifts you can have in boxing.

Of course there are other gifts too but this one alone can win a fight anytime anywhere.

In each fight something becomes the overwhelming factor that can give someone the necessary edge to win, it can be skills, IQ, power, speed, age, any of them or even all of them.

On October 17th at Madison Square Garden in New York two fighters meet Golovkin vs Lemieux. This is a fight that boxing fans cannot wait to watch and the reason is simple, these two guys are willing to fight until only one man is standing. This is a non holds bar fight.

Both guys have similar styles they both like to come forwards and be the aggressors.

IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) is the emerging star of boxing today. In his career so far has easily wiped out all of his opponents, most of them by the way of knockout. His only problem? Can’t get to fight any of the top guys, they all seem currently unavailable.

Until finally IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) changed that and said yes to this challenge.

Of course Lemieux hasn’t got the same exposure and star status like other top names like Saul “Canelo” Alvarez or Miguel Cotto but he is a class opponent.

As I mentioned in the past I believe that at some point in time and if Golovkin keeps sweeping his opponents like this he will get his big chance. So this is a very good opportunity for him.

Of course Lemieux has different opinion he believes that he can beat Golovkin. His promoter Oscar De La Hoya believes that Lemieux will knock out Golovkin by the 5th round and win. I very much doubt about that and I will explain why.

Even if Lemieux does knock down Golovkin that won’t be necessarily the end of the fight, far from it.

I watched Lemieux on his fight against Hassan N’Dam, it was a brutal one but N’dam despite the many knock downs kept coming back until the end. Lemieux won that fight by a close unanimous decision.

In my observation one of two things happened in that fight, either Hassan N’Dam has the hardest chin in boxing either Lemieux’s knock out power is not that strong.

I suspect that Lemieux’s knockout power is not as devastating as Golovkin’s. Golovkin when he knocks out people causes irreversible damage. So if Lemieux decides to go for it he will taste from first hand that power and Golovkin too will taste Lemieux’s power and so we shall see who can take it.

It will be interesting to see what will happen once the first punches are thrown. We shall see then who can take the power. This for me will be the deciding factor.

Golovkin is very tough to beat because of his punching power. This is the number 1 reason why other top names like Canelo or Cotto keep avoiding him.

I know that Lemieux is a brave fighter and I believe him when he says that he will go for it. So let’s wait and see how it goes.
