By Mohammad Malik: It is extremely frustrating to read and watch everyone talk about a potential fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. I understand that it would be one of the biggest, if not the biggest fight in the history of boxing. But enough is enough, and that fight is being talked about for the last 5-6 years. Both fighters are past their prime, and while I would favor Floyd Mayweather Jr. if the fight were to take place, it would have been much more interesting to watch them fight 5-6 years ago.

It irks me to read when these so called boxing experts repeatedly say that this fight needs to happen for the fans. It’s not like Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao would fight for free or donate the earnings to some charity. The fans would pay somewhere close to $100 and the fighters would walk away with the biggest purses of their careers. Those who don’t really follow boxing, the casual fans, are the ones keeping the hype alive. I guess it allows them to show some knowledge about boxing by mentioning Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.

There are so many other fights that I would love to see instead! Don’t get me wrong, I would tune in to watch the fight, but it is extremely annoying to constantly hear whether the fight is taking place or not. I was more excited about the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Miguel Cotto fight. I think that’s a 50/50 fight. I would rather see Danny Garcia and Lucas Matthysee in a rematch. I think the upcoming fight between Keith Thurman and Robert Guerrero will be a great fight.

The new WBC World Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder just proved that he is not a hype job, and I look forward to seeing him fight Tyson Fury and all the entertainment that will be provided in the buildup. I also look forward to Amir Khan and Kell brook whenever it takes place. Who wouldn’t want to see Gennady “GGG” Golovkin fight Canelo, Cotto and Ward? Then you have Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares on a collision course. You can bet it will be a war. You could see Brandon Rios and Victor Ortiz fight down the road, but you get the point.

The fans should be more excited about these fights and putting pressure on the competing networks and promoters to make these fights a reality. I just hope the fans stop buying the hype associated with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao fight, and start demanding fights that will prove more entertaining.
