Mayweather to get $100 million, Pacquiao $60 million

pac8888By Allan Fox: There’s talk that Floyd Mayweather Jr is willing to give Manny Pacquiao a very generous cut of the financial pie in order to fight him on May 2nd. The talk is that Mayweather will give the Bob Arum promoted Pacquiao a 60-40 cut of the revenue, according to gmanetwork. Mayweather would stand to get $100 million for the fight compared to $60 million.

If this turns out to be true then it would be a very, very generous percentage that the 36-year-old Pacquiao would be getting for the fight because there are some boxing writers who feel that Pacquiao will get no better than a 70-30 cut of the revenue, and even that would be a generous offer by Mayweather.

Pacquiao’s pay-per-view numbers have been deteriorating lately, and the future outlook for the Filipino star isn’t that bright unless his promoter breaks the trend of matching him against his Top Rank fighters and starts putting him in with guys that boxing fans want to see Pacquiao fight.

“Those in the know say that the Mayweather camp is looking at the possibility of splitting the purse with the undefeated American getting $100 million while Pacquiao settling for $60 million,” Gmanetwork.com said about the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.

Offering Pacquiao a nice deal like this is very hard to believe. It sounds too good to be true, but then again Arum probably wouldn’t accept a cut less than 60-40 for a fight against Mayweather, even though Pacquiao would still be getting a career high payday with a 70-30 deal.

There’s a possibility that the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight would take place in the huge 90,000 seat Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Pacquiao has twice fought in that stadium in the past against Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito. It’s unclear whether Mayweather would be willing to fight in Texas against Pacquiao, because Mayweather has been fighting in Las Vegas, Nevada consistently since 2006.

This is Mayweather’s home and he enjoys fighting at the MGM Grand in Vegas. It’s doubtful that he would choose to fight in Texas at the Cowboys Stadium even if it meant a little more money for him to stage the fight there.

It’s hard to believe Mayweather would agree to fight Pacquiao in a venue suggested by his promoter Bob Arum. The Cowboys Stadium idea is likely Arum’s idea, as Pacquiao has fought there in the past. Mayweather probably won’t go along with that deal.
