Mayweather Jr really doesn’t want the fight!

floyd01By Juan dela Cruz: In a recent interview at Showtime, Floyd Mayweather Jr called out Manny Pacquiao, but many people, especially the experts and boxing scribes who had been following the saga, believed it’s all just Floyd’s ploy of making his followers believed that he’s not scared of the Pacman. There were some of his followers who immediately jumped in joy believing Floyd was serious in what he just stated.

It’s good if Mayweather finally make statement about Pac’s challenge. The bad thing is, Floyd again made ridiculous demands that are designed to make Pac look like the bad guy instead of making the fight a reality. Floyd now wants Pac to receive less than 40M dollars, justifying it by saying Pac had problems with Bradley and Marquez. If Canelo Alvarez deserves a large credit for his fight with Mayweather hitting 2.2 million sales, so, too, would Pacquiao deserve credit for what looms as the richest fight in history, and therefore he deserve more.

Floyd also wanted the fight to be broadcasted by Showtime, knowing Pac is with the HBO. Showtime and HBO can both show the fight as it was already done before, so why insist on Showtime only? Lastly, he wants the May 2 date which he called the Cinco de Mayweather. (Could anyone please tell Floyd that cinco is five in English and not two?) But anyway, that date had already been set up by HBO for Cotto-Alvarez fight which some believe will be as huge as the Pac-Floyd fight considering the slipped both fighters (Pac-Floyd) had made in recent years which makes the fight, albeit still huge, less appealing had it been five years ago.

When Floyd faced Maidana, he never asked Marcos to avenge his loss to Khan and Alexander as a prerequisite for the fight. So why asked Pacquiao to defeat Marquez first and avenge his knockout loss? In the case of Bradley, it’s already been moot and academic as Pacquiao already won against him despite that the first fight was one of the sports’ biggest robbery. Floyd even stated that Pac just wanted the fight because he was desperate for money. Who the hell cares if Manny is desperate for money or not? It is not Floyd’s business anymore. And besides, if he truly believed that Pacquiao is desperate for money, then why until now, Floyd never responded to a charity fight that Pac suggested?

Friday’s interview did nothing to advance the cause of getting the fight made. What he had been saying are clearly the opposite of what he has been acting. It was clear Floyd doesn’t want the fight. As Kevin Iole aptly puts it: “Frankly, it’s getting wearisome listening not only to his nonsense but also the way that Showtime babies Mayweather.”
