deontay57By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1-, 21 KOs) will be getting it on in a little more than a month from how on Showtime Championship Boxing from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Stiverne-Wilder fight was made official earlier on Sunday. As part of the build up to the fight, there will be a Stiverne-Wilder ALL Access episode that will take place a week before the fight.

That’s a big deal that Showtime is including an All Access episode because it shows how much they value this clash.

The 6’7” Deontay has recorded 32 consecutive knockouts since he turned pro in 2008. If Deontay can knock Stiverne out, it’ll likely put Deontay in against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in a mega clash in 2015.

Deontay will probably need to take care of business against the smaller, lighter hitting #3 WBC Bryant Jennings first before he gets to the Wladimir fight, but Jennings doesn’t have the size or the fire power to compete against Deontay.

Deontay says he wants to hurt the 36-year-old Stiverne due to the trash talking he’s done. Deontay plans on going out and knocking Stiverne out as fast as possible on January 17th. He’s not going to let Stiverne hang around by taking it easy on him by jabbing and not sitting down on his shots.

“I’m expecting a short night because we have bad blood. I really want to hurt this guy, and I haven’t felt this way in a long time,” Deontay said.

Deontay sounds serious. He really wants to get Stiverne out of there. Hopefully, Deontay doesn’t get sloppy and forget his defense because Stiverne has some punching power too. I mean, he doesn’t have the kind of power that Deontay has, but he has enough power to knockout guys like Chris Arreola.

I don’t expect Deontay to be as sloppy as Arreola was in his two fights against Stiverne, because he was just walking into shot after shot from Stiverne rather than being careful and fighting smart.

“Don’t blink on Jan. 17. I am the heavyweight champion of the world and nobody is going to beat me,” Stiverne said.

Stiverne could find it hard to land his power shots against Deontay due to his lack of height and reach. The only way Stiverne connects in this fight is if Deontay misses a shot and overreaches.

Stiverne will then be able to land something, but he’s someone who throws his best from medium distance and if Deontay misses, he’ll be too close to Stiverne to have a lot of power on his shots.
