Kellerman: Geale’s life will be transformed if he beats Golovkin

golovkin63By Dan Ambrose: Former IBF/WBA middleweight champion Daniel Geale (30-2, 16 KOs) has a nearly impossible task in front of him this month when he faces WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 KOs) on July 26th in a fight televised by HBO at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Next to no one is giving the 33-year-old Geale any chance in this fight because he’s arguably facing the best fighter in the middleweight division. Even guys like Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Miguel Cotto have shown zero interest in wanting to get in the ring with Golovkin despite both of them weighing the same as him.

Golovkin is just someone that no one wants to tangle with right now due to his incredible punching power and excellent boxing skills.

HBO commentator Max Kellerman believes that Geale is in a situation where he gain a lot if he can pull off an upset. There’s not much pressure on the Australian fighter because most people see him as the sacrificial lamb for Golovkin to slaughter on July 26th, so he has that going for him.

“For Daniel Geale to beat a rising start like Golovkin, it would transform Geale’s life. Golovkin’s the baddest man on the planet,” says Kellerman.

Geale feels he’s up to the task of beating Golovkin. “Everyone knows the guys got power. I’m not intimidated. A lot of people are telling me ‘you’re not going to win.’ That just drives me and makes me want to prove them wrong. I’ve not been knocked out as a professional and I’m going to try and keep it that way. I want the fight at Madison Square Garden. It’s a big opportunity and I plan on making the most of it.”

A win over Golovkin could get Geale a big fight against Canelo or Cotto, because it’s very likely that one of those fighters will suddenly show interest in fighting Geale rather than Golovkin. It would be their chance to try and show boxing fans that they’re better than Golovkin without actually having to fight him. If they beat the guy that beat Golovkin, then they can use that to say they’re the best fighter in the middleweight division.

The problem is Geale has such a small chance of beating Golovkin. It might take a miracle for Geale to win this fight because he is not a puncher at all, and that’s going to be a problem for him because he has absolutely nothing to hold Golovkin off of him other than by moving around the ring constantly.
