Hunter sees Canelo-Angulo fight being a savage bout that will change them

He thinks this is going to be a really brutal affair as long as the referee doesn’t jump in and halt the fight before it finishes playing out.

It could end up being a really grueling fight, but for that to happen, Angulo is going to need to be ready to cut off the ring on Canelo and force him to fight, because he’s likely going to be on his bike for much of it. He’s not going to come after Angulo the way he’s done with the welterweights that Golden Boy Promotions has matched him up against. Angulo is a real junior middleweight with power, and that’s going to change how Canelo fights because he’ll be getting hit back with hard shots for the first time in his career.

“I just have this feeling that I don’t think that both men will walk out of the ring the same on Saturday night,” said Hunter via RingTV.com. “I just anticipate such a savage affair there that it’s going to be taken out of my hands, and that it’s going to be taken out of Coach Reynoso’s hands, and it’s pretty much going to be left up to them. I’m kind of asking the officials to just let them go, because I can just sense this storm coming. Just let them go.”

It’s doubtful that the referee will halt the fight if Canelo is taking a beating unless it’s a really bad beating. Canelo is too popular and I don’t think the referee will want to pull the plug on fight unless Canelo is really bad off to the point where he’s a punching bag on the ropes. But Canelo could make it easy for Angulo to get a stoppage if he tries to fight off the ropes like he did in the Austin Trout fight and how he did at times in his bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr. last September.

Who can forget how Canelo looked when he backed up against the ropes in the Mayweather fight, and took over 10 unanswered punches to the head from Mayweather. Canelo thought he could play defense against the ropes like he had in the Trout fight, but Mayweather ignored Canelo’s head movement and just teed off on him. Trout was too cautious for his own good, and should have done what Mayweather did by just unloading on Canelo.

I have a strong feeling that Angulo will score a quick stoppage in the fight once Canelo turns red in the face from moving around the ring and backs up against the ropes for one of his rest breaks. Angulo will savage him with power shots and likely hurt him with something. Canelo has too much pride to get off the ropes, so we’ll likely see him get done in right there. It’ll be like Custer’s last stand.

If Canelo takes a beating in this fight, it’s definitely possible that he won’t be the same fighter after this. He’s already not seen as the same fighter after his back to back poor fights against Trout and Mayweather.
