Robert Guerrero’s move proves who is holding up Mayweather/Pacquiao fight

guerrero45By Robert “Big Moe” Elmore: In shocking news reported by ESPN, former two division world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero is trying to break his contract with Golden Boy because his name is in the mix to fight Manny Pacquiao.

The Pacquiao faithful and Floyd haters moaned and groaned when Mayweather made the statement that he would not do business with Bob Arum. He also stated that he would not do business with Manny Pacquiao, who is currently with Top Rank, until he left the company. Here is the million dollar question.

Why does Guerrero have to have to leave Golden Boy in order to get a fight with Pacquaio? He doesn’t have any beef with Top Rank so why can’t Top Rank just sit down with Golden Boy and negotiate a step aside fee or try to co-promote the event? Keep in mind, Guerrero is not named Mayweather. If Guerrero manages to get out of his contract, this will the third Golden Boy fighter (Shane Mosley, Juan Manuel Marquez) and forth fighter overall (Tim Bradley had to leave Gary Shaw) that would have had to leave their respective promotional company to get a fight with Pac.

Guerrero is coming off a shutout loss and career pay day against Floyd Mayweather. He turned down a fight against Keith Thurman and seemingly was holding out for another big pay day. And more than likely, if Guerrero does sign with Top Rank, he probably won’t sign just a one fight deal. He’ll probably be added to the April 12th undercard and fight Pacquiao sometime in October of this year.

Pacquiao fans and Floyd haters moaned, groaned, and deemed Robert unworthy to fight Floyd, but now he seems very much fit to fight Pacquiao? Where is the justification in this? On the business side of things, I can’t get mad at Robert. He is doing what is best for him and his family. This is a very bold move by him. And to be honest, I’m proud of him. It takes guts to make such a move. He must’ve sat down and thought about the consequences and what he has to sacrifice. The only drawback is Golden Boy is loaded with welterweights while Top Rank is very thin in that area. But hopefully, on the business side of things, that he and his team knows what they are getting themselves into and that they have all their paper work together.

So what is the difference between what Floyd said Pacquiao had to do in order for the mega fight to happen and what Guerrero is doing to get a fight with Pacquiao? There is only one. Floyd verbally splattered his words to the media while Top Rank’s actions have spoken for them.

Again, I reiterate, Robert doesn’t have any beef with Arum. There hasn’t been any verbal warfare between these two. So I ask one more time, Guerrero is not named Floyd Mayweather, but he must leave Golden Boy to get a fight? This clearly proves to me who is holding up the fight. In fact, Top Rank doesn’t have to say anything. Guerrero’s actions are speaking loud and clear. If there is any justification from the Pacquiao faithful, I’d love to hear it.
