Tyson Fury won’t fight until end of March

fury111By Scott Gilfoid: Tyson Fury’s trainer Peter Fury says that Tyson won’t be back in the ring until the end of March. Tyson had talked about wanting to mix it up with American heavyweight Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30 KO’s) on February 8th in Manchester to have him replace Haye, but that’s not going to happen, according to Britishboxers. Fury will be taking Christmas holidays off and won’t be back in training in January sometime for his March bout.

Supposedly it’ll be up to Sky whether they want to televise the Fury-Deontay fight. They’ll be making a decision about the fight soon, I hope, because Deontay doesn’t need to wait around for months on end while they decide on whether to televise the fight or not.

If the Fury fight isn’t possible, Deontay needs to stay busy and keep fighting so that he can continue to get pushed up the ranks. It sounds the Fury fight will be quicksand for Deontay because he’ll end up waiting too long for them to get off the pot and make some kind of decision about the fight.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer wants Deontay to fight for a world title in 2014, and that means he can ill afford to wait on Fury. If Fury wants the fight, he needs to come to the U.S if the British television networks can’t make up their minds, because Showtime will definitely televise the Fury-Wilder fight.

Honestly, this is a really bad match-up for Fury because he doesn’t have the speed, power, athleticism or the chin to compete against the likes of Deontay and I can see this one going really badly for him if he does decide to take it, which I don’t think he will. It’s good that Tyson name dropped Deontay’s name because it got him a lot of attention, but when push came to shove we’ve seen what’s come of that. Deontay has been left hanging and the word is hurry up and wait. Deontay needs to move because this sounds like a lot of game playing to me and Deontay doesn’t have years and years to be sitting around waiting for anyone. There are titles to be won, and fighters need to stay busy. If Fury wants to sit around for another year or so then that’s on him. He’s already going to be losing a year of his career with the David Haye mess, and that’s pretty sad.
