Heavyweight Boxing after the Klitschko’s

wilder2By Lee Smith: I hear a lot of people saying that the Heavyweight division is dull, that there are no real contenders, that the Heavyweight Division is dominated by the Klitschko’s. Well the truth is, the heavyweight division IS dominated by the Klitschko’s and there aren’t really many contenders who can compete with them, but that’s not because of the dreadful opposition its because the Klitschko’s are that good that nobody can compete with them.

There aren’t rivalry’s in the division such as Ali-Fraser-Foreman or Lewis-Holyfield-Tyson anymore but in fairness between them the Klitschko’s have fought just about every contender the Heavyweight Division has to offer….and dominated each and everyone of them. The one person I believed would genuinely beat Wladimir Klitschko was David Haye. He could box, he could slug it out and he could KO people.

However, when he came up against Wladimir he was dominated from the opening bell. But the Klitschko’s aren’t the spring chickens they once where at 37 & 41 years old and here are the people I believe may step up to the plate when they do decide to call it a day…. David Haye I believe that after the Klitschko’s that David Haye is miles above any other Heavyweight in the Division. He is a Unified Cruiserweight World Champion and a Former Heavyweight Champion. Despite his inactivity he returned and destroyed Derek Chisora (who went 12 rounds with Vitali) in 5 brutal rounds. I believe that whoever he gets in the ring with apart from the Klitschkos; he will defeat convincingly Kubrat Pulev. I haven’t seen Pulev fight an awful lot but he has some impressive names on his record. He beat former English, British, European & world title challenger Matt Skelton by 4th round KO in only his 5th fight. He also has wins over respectable names such as Dominick Guinn, Derric Rossy, Travis Walker, Michael Sprott, Alexander Dimitrenko & Alexander Ustinov.

I personally believe that if he is matched carefully he will pick up a World Title against an aging former champ such as Ruslan Chagaev or fringe contenders such as Jonathon Banks or Juan Carlos Gomez. David Price Despite Price’s recent 2nd round KO loss i believe he will bounce back and beat Tony Thompson in the rematch and go on to become a World Champ, not because of his boxing ability but because of his devastating one punch power. If David Price connects properly with a shot he will knock any heavyweight in the world out and that could capture him a world title. However, there will always be a question mark over his chin, but that’s what makes him exiting. He has the ability to knock anyone out but also has the ability to be KO’ed at any point Deontay Wilder. A lot of people say that Deontay Wilder hasn’t fought anyone with a pulse yet…which he hasn’t. But in fairness he can only beat what is put in front of him & let face it he has done that in impressive fashion KO’ing all of his opponents within 4 rounds and winning an Olympic Bronze medal (which they don’t just give away).

Wilder’s up and coming fight with Audley Harrison will really prove how good he is. You have to give him some credit for coming over to England to fight & I believe that if he can KO Harrison within 5 rounds then he could just be the real deal but as of yet we have no proof of how good he is Tyson Fury I believe Tyson Fury is the man to take over from the Klitschko’s and I would bet every penny that I have that he will win a World Title at some point in the future. He is only 24 yrs old (a baby for a heavyweight) and has already won the English Title (aged 20) the British & Commonwealth Titles (aged 22) and has beaten former world title challengers Derek Chisora and Kevin Johnson in convincing fashion and I believe that he will become the 1st man to stop Steve Cunningham in the later rounds when they meet this month.

A lot of people may think he talks too much and that he is cocky, however it is just confidence and who is to argue with him as he has a perfect 20-0 record and a 70% KO ratio and after the Klitschko’s and David Haye retire I can’t see anyone being able to touch Tyson Fury Other people I believe will have a say in the future of the heavyweight division will be Alexander Povetkin, Robert Helenius, Magomed Abdusalamov, Derek Chisora (despite recent defeats all against top class opposition), Chris Arreola & Tomasz Adamek. Anyone else have any opinions?
