Image: Sulaiman welcomes David Haye back to the WBC foldBy Scott Gilfoid: Well, it looks like former WBA World heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) has talked his way back into getting ranked by the World Boxing Council after meeting with WBC president Jose Sulaiman while he was in London recently.

According to World Boxing Council news, Sulaiman and Haye met in London, and Haye told him that he’d like to get back with the WBC and the it looks like Sulaiman is going to give Haye his wish.

There was talk that the WBC would no longer recognize Haye after he chose to fight Dereck Chisora last month in a fight that both the WBC and the British Boxing Board of Control were against happening. Haye chose to take the fight – and the big money that came with it – instead and it looks the gamble paid off because he’s now about to get ranked by the WBC.

Haye is hoping he can get ranked by the WBC so that he can get a big money fight against 41-year-old WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KO’s) before he retires from the sport. All I can say to that is I hope Haye doesn’t hold his breath, because the way that Vitali has been talking lately, I don’t think he wants the fight for some reason.

Vitali would win on size alone, but he seems more interested in taking easy fights and possibly retiring at the end of the year after his easy mismatch against Manuel Charr on September 8th in Moscow, Russia. Haye probably moves too much to interest Vitali, who could see this as a flashback fight for him to his loss to Chris Byrd in 2000.

Like I said, Vitali would win the fight, but it would take some courage to agree to the fight because there would be some definite risk involved for the aging Ukrainian. If things work out well, Vitali could retire with an impressive win and a nice payday to go along with it if he beats Haye. However, if things go terribly wrong with Haye knocking the slow-footed, slow-handed Vitali out, it would be a terrible fight for him to retire on.

Can you imagine all the gloating Haye would do after knocking Vitali out. It would be a nightmare for Vitali, and he’d have to get his little brother Wladimir Klitschko to do his dirty work for him to avenge the defeat. That would go over real good with another revenge of the brother scenarios like in the past when Wladimir beat up Byrd after he had defeated Vitali.

By getting ranked in the top 15 by the WBC, Haye will be in position to fight Vitali if the big Ukrainian decides he wants to fight him before hanging up his gloves. Don’t count on that happening.
