Ricky Hatton looking in fighting shape, but who’s bad enough for him to beat?

Image: Ricky Hatton looking in fighting shape, but who's bad enough for him to beat?By Scott Gilfoid: Judging by the recent photos I’ve personally seen of former two division world champion Ricky Hatton, he looks to be in the neighborhood of 150 pounds. He’s clearly dropped at least 60 to 70 pounds of flab from his frame and possibly he can lose another 10 pounds to make at 140 fairly easily.

My question is who’s Hatton going to fight? He just blew his chance at winning an easy WBA welterweight strap off of paper champion Paulie Malignaggi.

That chance is gone now, because Malignaggi plans on fighting a light welterweight Pablo Cesar Cano in October. That was Hatton’s big chance, unless he’s hoping to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. again. It’s possible, but I kind of doubt it. Mayweather has pretty high standards and he probably would have no interest in facing a guy that hasn’t fought in three years. You can also forget Manny Pacquiao, although I think Bob Arum would probably take that fight in a second.

Hatton has be matched selectively because if they put him in with someone good he’ll get knocked cold again. My suggestion is for Hatton to fight Amir Khan or wait on a fight against Malignaggi. As far as the domestic seen goes, there’s no one in the UK that’s worth Hatton fighting. None of the 140-147 pounders are worth fighting. Kell Brook just got exposed, and that’s pretty much it – Khan or Brook.

Hatton’s chin is probably still fragile, so they need to match him against a weak puncher so he doesn’t get knocked cold again. Khan is a slapper, and he would be perfect. But the timing is terrible with Khan having been recently thrashed by Danny Garcia.
