Garcia will make it tough on Khan

Image: Garcia will make it tough on KhanBy William Mackay: If you look at the one constant that Amir Khan has had in virtually all of his wins during his seven-year pro career, he’s been the taller fighter against his opposition. The fights where Khan hasn’t been taller or is facing a guy around the same height as him, Khan has struggled.

On July 7th, Khan will be fighting 5’9″ WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 5’10” Khan supposedly will have a one inch height advantage in this fight, but I have doubts to whether Khan is actually taller. The two fighters stood eye to eye during last Monday’s press conference in Los Angeles, California, and Garcia was the same height.

This could be a huge problem for Khan because it means that he’s going to be getting hit a lot in this fight. Khan getting hit a lot means that there’s a good chance that he’ll go down or get shaken up badly. Khan took on a non-puncher in his last fight against Lamont Peterson last November, and Khan was in really bad shape in that fight due to Peterson being able to land his shots.

Khan doesn’t take well to getting hit. He can dish it out just fine, but when he starts to get hit a lot, he generally puts on his track shoes and starts running around the ring to avoid getting hit. This in turn makes him tired resulting in his shots losing steam.

If Garcia can keep the pressure on Khan and continue landing hard shots from the outside and battering him on the inside, he can win this fight. In a toe-to-toe battle, you have to give it to Garcia because he’s never been known to have chin problems the way that Khan has.

Khan will use a lot of movement if things start going badly for him.
