Image: Donaire faces Vazquez Jr. for vacant WBO title, then Arce later in 2012By Chris Williams: Nonito Donaire (27-1, 18 Ko’s) is being aimed at specific beatable targets by his promoter Bob Arum in order to get Donaire to win the most titles, make the most money and without any slipups.

This is why you’re seeing Donaire, 29, fight the recently knocked out Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. (21-1, 18 KO’s) for a meaningless World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantamweight title rather than facing the arguably much respected WBA super bantamweight champion Rico Ramos or the equally dangerous WBA interim champion Guillermo Rigongeaux in what would be in effect toss-up fights for Donaire.

But instead we’re seeing Donaire put in with Vazquez, who was knocked out last year by Jorge Arce in a 12th round TKO loss in May 2011. Donaire will meet Vazquez Jr. on February 4th at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on the same card as the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Marco Antonio Rubio bout.

If Donaire can get past Vazquez Jr., then Arum is expected to match Donaire against 32-year-old Jorge Arce at a still undetermined weight. Arce, now the WBA bantamweight champion, is facing Lorenzo Parra next month on February 18th and he’s got to win that fight to move forward to a Donaire fight. Arce is very interested in fighting Donaire due to the big payday he can get. He’s thinking of retiring soon anyway, so it won’t matter if he suffers yet another loss. Arce has already been beaten by Vic Darchinyan and Simphiwe Nongqayi in the past three years and should have arguably suffered another loss to Parra in September 2010.

Donaire will likely fight WBC super bantamweight champion Toshiaki Noshioka after the Arce fight and then will move up in weight to the featherweight division where things will get really interesting for Donaire depending on whether or not Arum matches him tough.
