McKenna (McJack): Dereck Chisora (15-2, 9 KO’s) will be squaring off against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (43-2, 40 KO’s) in just four weeks on February 18 in Munich, Germany. Any way you look at it “Del-Boy” as his fans refer to Dereck , will be facing a formidable task.

Vitali is not only a great fighter who uses his height and reach to maximum advantage he is a cerebral fighter who studies every opponent carefully before he steps into the ring. “Dr. Ironfist” does not make the mistake of underestimating any of his opponents.

Let’s take a look at who Vitali Klitschko is and what Chisora will be facing when he enters the ring on February 18. Vitali has never been knocked down. Also, he has never been behind in a fight. The two fights he lost were due to injuries he sustained, and even in those fights against Lennox Lewis and Chris Byrd, Klitschko was leading on all scorecards at the time of the stoppages. Since coming back after a four year layoff due to injuries to score a TKO over then WBC heavyweight champion Sam Peter, Vitali has won nearly every round of every fight.

“Del-Boy” undoubtedly knows what he is facing and feels that he has what it takes to bring the WBC title belt back to England. Of course that is what you would expect any challenger of Klitschko to say. An interview with any fighter who challenges “Dr. Ironfist” usually ends with the challenger saying something akin to “I am going to shock the world!. But in this writers view Chisora really believes his own hype and does not fear the 6’7 ½” Ukrainian.

Chisora believes that he has the antidote to Klitschko’s huge height and reach advantage. Dereck believes that many of Vtali’s opponents are beat before they ever get into the ring with him. So with the fear factor removed what is Chisora’s strategy going to be?

First of all “Del-Boy” says that unlike in his fight with Tyson Fury he will enter the ring in the best shape of his life. Secondly Chisora will use a lot of head movement, while bobbing and weaving to get inside of Vitali’s long arms. Once inside he will use constant, unrelenting pressure while going to the body to slow Klitschko down. Over the course of the fight Chisora believes that Klitschko will all of a sudden start looking like the forty year old fighter he is.

Chisora believes that no fighter has effectively been able to fight Klitschko on the inside.

“Del-Boy” plans to change all that. Dereck also believes that his chances of achieving victory are at least as good as many of the challengers from the past who were huge underdogs, yet went on to victory.
