Image: Win or lose: What next for Carl Froch?By Marcus Sales: Carl Froch’s future will be very different depending on victory or defeat in the super six final early Sunday morning. Enough has been written and said about Andre Ward’s talents in the ring, which are undoubted. I personally think that his ability to fight on the inside may surprise everyone come fight night, and if Froch does drag this into an inside war, he will be shocked by Wards willingness to trade.

So come Sunday morning, Froch has prevailed in a victory that elevates him to super stardom. He will hold the WBA, WBC and The Ring Magazine Super Middleweight titles and will have to be considered one of the best pound for pound boxers in the world. He will also have a very large price on his head. Anthony Dirrell, Andre Dirrell, Lucian Bute and Mikel Kessler will all want a piece of Carl Froch. For me if Froch prevails, the only fight is against the unbeaten IBF Super Middleweight champion Lucian Bute. This would be an epic unification match up which would have the potential to light up the Las Vegas strip. I disagree with Froch, who claims that Bute isn’t on his level, everything I have seen of Bute suggests he is an elite fighter who would pose major problems for either Froch or Ward.

Froch may however, taste the second defeat of his career and in the process lose his WBC Title. Where would he go from there? Obviously a rematch would only come about if the nature of the fight demanded one. Some would say Froch is 34 and should retire a two time WBC Super Middleweight champion. Rubbish. If Froch were to lose I see a massive fight on the horizon. It’s not against Lucian Bute, it’s not a rematch against Kessler, it’s not even in the 168 pound division. I could see Froch moving up to the Light Heavyweight division where he could challenge the WBO Champion and fellow Brit Nathan Cleverly. This would be one of the greatest British fights for a long time and could sell out several large arenas. Personally i would pick Froch to prevail and become a two weight world champion. Not a bad tag to your name.

As a fellow Brit i sincerely hope it is the first scenario that plays out. Froch’s run of fights over the last several years has not been matched by anyone in boxing in terms of the level of opposition he has faced time and time again. He would deserve every accolade that would come his way. The point of this article however is to highlight that he has very good options should he lose this fight. May the best man win.
