By John F. McKenna (McJack): World Boxing Organization (WBO) / World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (53-5-1, 39 KO’s) believes he has the key for victory when he takes on World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KO’s).

Marquez will face off against Pacquiao on November 12 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

The first two fights were very controversial resulting in the need for a third fight. In 2004 “El Dinamita” held “Pacman” to a draw in a fight that was fought at 126 pounds. Marquez was floored three times in the first round, but came back later in the match to make it a competitive fight. The fight was called a draw, when a judge officiating the match tabulated his score incorrectly. The error on the judges scorecard wound up depriving Manny of victory.

The second fight in 2008 fought at 130 pounds was equally controversial. Pacquiao was awarded a narrow victory even though many boxing fans in attendance thought that Marquez deserved victory. Juan is of the opinion that he was robbed of victory in both fights.

In a HBO 24/7 episode Marquez reveals what he feels is key to victory for him against Pacquiao. After his morning roadwork he rests and then has breakfast. Juan’s breakfast consists of twenty five quail eggs and orange juice. Marquez is convinced that he gets a tremendous energy boost from the concoction.

In the afternoon “El Dinamita” resorts to another unusual regimen. He gets into a tank where he inhales pure oxygen. Marquez breathes in the oxygen through a mask while he is inside the tank.

While these methods may seem bizarre, they pale in comparison to Juan drinking his own urine after consulting with a doctor in Mexico several years ago. Marquez thinks this unusual regimen will play a huge part in what he is certain will be a victory over Manny Pacquiao.

Marquez also believes that hard training will pay huge dividends come fight night in Las Vegas. Juan also stresses that he will rely on ring intelligence, patience and counter punching to carry him through to victory.

Marquez trainer Nacho Beristain, although confident that Juan has the necessary skill to defeat Pacquiao, openly admits that Manny’s brute force worries him.
