Kessler will be facing WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz in March or April depending on how well Kessler’s finger responds during the rehab period.

Kessler was supposed to have fought Stieglitz on November 5th, but the injury to Kessler’s finger caused the cancellation of the fight.

Kessler has only fought once this year, defeating Mehdi Bouadla by a 6th round TKO last June. Kessler also only fought once in 2010, beating WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch by a 12 round unanimous decision in the Super Six tournament in Copenhagen, Denmark. Kessler aggravated a preexisting eye injury in that fight and needed to pull out of the tournament shortly after the fight.

Sauerland Promotions, the promoters for Kessler, have big plans for him in 2012. They want to put Kessler in with the winner of the December Super Six finals fight between Froch and Andre Ward. Kessler has fought both guys in the past, losing to Ward and beating Froch. This would be a great opportunity for Kessler if he can win the fight. Sauerland is going to try and have that fight take place in Denmark. That could prove difficult.

Froch will likely not want to fight Kessler again in Denmark after losing to him previously in there. Froch feels that he would have won the fight had it taken place outside of Denmark, and it’s a stretch to think Froch will opt to fight there again. Ward mainly likes to fight in his hometown of Oakland, California and will probably resist the notion of fighting Kessler in Denmark, especially when Ward already beat Kessler.
