Deontay Wilder winding down training for Dominique Alexander fight on 8/27
By Scott Gilfoid: One of the best up and coming heavyweight talents in the division Deontay Wilder (17-0, 17 KO’s is putting the finishing touches to his training camp for his next fight against Dominique Alexander (20-11-1, 9 KO’s) on August 27th at the Water Oaks Farm Arena, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Wilder, only 25, is a 2008 Olympic heavyweight bronze medalist for the U.S, and one of the biggest punchers in the heavyweight division.
However, those are a things that will come along in time as he develops. But his right hand is simply amazing. With that weapon alone, I would favor him against all of the top young heavyweight prospects such as Tyson Fury, David Price, Robert Helenius, Kubrat Pulev and Denis Boytsov.
After Wilder makes short work of Alexander next week, I’d like to see Wilder step up against some of the fringe contenders in the heavyweight division like say Fury or Manuel Charr to see how well Wilder does. I can see him knocking both those guys out. Fury has no power and Charr is more of a slow slapper. This wouldn’t take long to put in a highlight reel knockout against those guys and then move up against bigger and better opposition.

Manuel Charr is the next Heavy Champ
He is a Gun!!!!!
You critics are like every other bleacher coach. You all talking about this young man have’nt done that much. I know one thing about Wilder is when I coached him, he gave 100% in everything. Champ hold your head up because what ever happens you’re my champ.
the weight is not an issue. vlad was in the 220s for his first 30 fights as a heavyweight. he will develop muscle. im just not sure wilder has the skill. like most tall men, he is clumsy when trying to use his hands, feet and head all at once.
steve
chambers would beat fury, price, and sexton….so what??? you cant compare fighters at different stages of their career. wilder has been a paid heavyweight for 6 months….
i think you are hurting the perception of american boxing by pushing wilder. right now he is not even in america’s top 20 heavyweights. half the europeans on this site now think he is america’s best heavyweight….i wish you’d stop.
So far Iam not all that impressed with Wilder.Yes he has a decent right hand, and a lot of hieght. But no jab,he seems to be a bit clumsy, and sometimes a little confused during fights. Also all he has fought is no hopers and over stuffed cruiser weights that are no hopers.I hope Iam wrong but so far he just doesn’t impress(and I am American)
none of wilders opponents have a pulse!
another heavyweight with no hope just feed bums but hey giffy u know a realy good prospect dont u ? pmsl
needs to step up and fight someone with i dont know lets say with less than 10 losses on his record before we say hes going to be anyone to watch
@Reed, I don’t know, he’s 6′ 7″, 84 reach, but is under 225 lbs, too small.
Needs to develop a jab.
Gets wild when he throws combos.
Price especially after his last two performances seems the best prospect out there, as you yanks say PERIOD……
fury , chisora , price , sexton , rogan , sprott , even mcdermott and harrison would beat this guy
reed wilder isnt being rushed check his record he has fought nobodys 17 of them
Why’s his right so much better than Price’s ? Who of any calibre has Wilder fought to make such a claim? Other than being American….He is a prospect tho’. This article is a bit breathless and gushing and Gilfoid needs some objectivity
@anonymous how good is wilder i think he has a chance to something big if not rushed
He’s more green than green, give him time to develop.
Wait a couple of years.
Don’t rush him.
Nothing against Wilder, but if you dont have a left hand then you cannot consider yourself a contender.
*fraud
Bronze sez it all. Wilder this third rate.
Hahahahahaha when’s this clown goner fight a heavyweight instead of old club doorman he 17 & 0 your telling boxers from England to step it up at 10 & 0 you clown
