Paul “The Punished” Williams: Ready for Pacquiao or Mayweather
By Rasheed Catapang: Be careful what you wished for…
Paul Williams dreamt of mixing it up with Pacquiao or Mayweather for a career high payday and had a plan of how to carry it through. He’d asserted himself to the pound for pound throne and made his case, leaving it in the end to the people to call upon such a fight being made. Boxing’s top two would not have heed the call anyway on their own accord even with their talents due to William’s freakish built, a welterweight with the height and reach of a heavyweight.
Sergio Martinez, of course, as we know by now had other plans. He’d gone before where angels fear to tread. And he doesn’t mind if it’s long tall Paul standing at the road’s end – he won’t be standing there long enough.
Paul Williams may have had the wingspan of a pterodactyl, but just like Icarus much earlier before him painfully learned, they’re not that good when they’re made of wax. The Middleweight Champion of the World never let up – pressuring Williams, and putting enough heat to make sure those wax melted. And melt they did as Paul Williams wilted in just about 4 minutes.
It was deluge the first time they fought and fire this time around. Paul Williams was utterly destroyed by a superior force.
In so doing, Sergio Martinez may have inherited the cursed of the leper from his fallen foe. Pacquiao and Mayweather, no slight to them, would not touch him. Who in their right mind would when you’re the Middleweight Champion of the World?
The opposite, however, is true for Paul “The Punished” Williams. The Punisher had been thoroughly punished and the Most Feared introduced to Fear itself. The utmost irony, though, is that Paul Williams’ dreams may just happen yet.
Pacquiao, with his successive grueling fights and recent battle with Margarito, might as well be deserving of a soft touch in his next fight. After Sergio’s thudding left, Paul Williams must now be soft enough. Soft and still he’ll be the biggest opponent Pacquiao would have faced. It’s a win-win situation and nobody can deny it’s a compelling match.
Mayweather, on the other hand, more of a carrion bird of late than a predator, had been known to feed on carcasses of fallen or faded champions. It’s actually a strict diet with a dodging regimen equal to or superior to those of heavyweight ducker David Haye. Paul Williams now may just be the right type of willing victim he was looking for – tall, still looks fearsome but totally vulnerable. The vulture would be thankful for a feast.
Paul Williams accomplished in losing what he could not do while winning. He might have his dream granted after all.

“feed on carcasses of fallen or faded champions.”
Really? Sounds more like Pacquiao who made ODLH get drained to fight him. DLH at 144 pounds? Are you serious? After ODLH’s loss to Mayweather nonetheless. Then he took Mayweather’s leftovers again after Mayweather knocked out the then-undefeated Hatton. Pac takes Cotto after Cotto took a vicious beating from Margarito. Pac takes Margarito after he’s out of boxing for a year with only one fight in between fighting some lame in Mexico. And Pac’s side is now actually talking about a possible fight with now-washed up Mosley or that 135lb Marquez who was dominated by Mayweather? Also, I like how Martinez is too big for Pac even though Martinez came in at 168 on fight night and Margarito came in at 167. But you’re absolutely right, with the style of cherry picking that Pac employs, PWill actually has a much better chance of scoring a fight with Pacquiao now.
Seems like no more division Floydie could duck,,,only one way to go….he definitely voluntarily submits himself to JAIL.
PWill is a disgrace to african-american boxers. Floyd won’t fight him because he’s already looking at fighting the winner of this fight which is Martinez. Let’s wait for Floyd’s announcement on this.
KFC WILL NEVER FIGHT PACMAN NOT EVEN NEXT YEAR… REMEMBER HE’S GEETING MARRIED SOMETIME EARLY 2011. REMEMBER THAT. FORTUNE TELLERS HAVE DECLARED KFC WILL NOT FIGHT HIM, NOT EVEN IN HIS DREAMS. OK SO ALL OF YOU HERE JUST SHUT UP.
@Torribio el ninoy
agree with u. watched one of pacquiao’s interview, say’s he’ll fight anyone and will beat anyone.
and contrary to other opinions, he doesnt care whether it’s names shane, floyd bhop etc.
i just can’t see floyd now fighting anybody who could hurt him. he’s perfected the craft of cherry picking. what gives anyone the idea he’ll want any part of sergio martinez.
@ Floydie..That’s wishful thinking. By now, it is pretty sure Sergio Martinez is in Floyd’s Sr’s list of fighters who should take olympic random blood testing before he can fight his Jr.
Mayweather says he’ll take on the Martinez-Williams winner. Let’s get it on!
Williams better fight Cintron or Margarito, obviously a bum before one of them.
This biz about dissing Pacman because he won’t keep fighting bigger and bigger guys has to end. All that is just noise coming from Pac haters. Give it a rest. Williams should fight Margarito next. Too devastated losers in the ring together. Would be a great matchup.
I never thought the fight would end up that way. I thought it would be war before a KO by Martinez in the later rounds. Pacquiao vs Martinez, if Martinez calls him out. Let’s just leave Williams to run after Mayweather till they both retire.
stop freak shows!
I think it is not a good idea for pac or mayweather to fight martinez or anyone in the 160lbs.
pac will not be able to handle someone with some speed and someone in the top ten rankings in 160lbs.
mayweather has a better chance but i wouldnt recommend it because he like pacquiao has gone up in weight several times and are at their peak.
the only exception is that mayweather didnt cripple his opponents while he moved up he always weighed less than his opponent the day of the fight regardless if he moved up to face the bigger man he didnt rely on catch weights to weaken them he made sure he and his opponent weighed the same the day before even if he couldnt gain too much the next day. now that sounds like a true champ to me.
example:
mayweather 136 1/2 vs corrales 146
mayweather 138 Castillo 147
Mayweather 146 judah 150
mayweather 149 vs baldomir 162
Mayweather 150 vs de la hoya 154
write all of this down and do your homework
The only fighters Williams should fight is short guys.Guys his own height he cannot beat.If he goes up in weight his chances get worse.he is basicaly a light heavyweight in height and won,t have the power to match that weight.Of course he is a Mark breland,that is far busiier.He also punches about as hard as Breland too.I think Williams wil skid into a downward trend.Poor techniques and a poor defensive fighter,he has to rely on his offense alone.
That would be a freak show. A 160lb 6’2″ guy boxing natural 140lb fighters half a foot shorter than him.
Williams is now at a cross-road in his career. This was his first KO loss and devastating at that. This was similar to Roy Jones’ first KO loss… just got caught with that Sunday punch. The big question now is how will this effect him mentally? A lot of boxers do not recover from their first KO loss. Let’s see how Williams deals with it.
With Williams height, you’re sure he coulnd jump because he’s in boxing.
He could not even do very good in this arena.
But the look of your face on the canvass, probably DIVING,,you look good also,,,,nah! swimming suits you well, your hands are fast to paddle.
Bernard Hopkins stated that Pac could not beat a Black American boxer…he’s wrong. Could he not tell that the sports right now are dominated by a SMALL MAN! not the COLOR OF THE SKIN!
WTF was all that <rap?!?
Reading that article was like watching an uwe boll movie!
Martinez looked bigger and stronger than he did in the 1st fight.
I have been calling for this fight but now that Williams is damaged goods I am not sure I like it for Pac. Bradley – Alexander is more bang for the buck even though it is a mismatch of the highest order. But either Bradley or Alexander needs to be exposed for what they are. Too much hype for either fighter. That is not even close to being in Pacs league.
THE MAIN CULPRIT TO ALL BOXING MESS IN TODAY’S MATCHUP IS THE WORLD BOXING COMMISSION. THE COMMISSION IS OBLIGATORY TO DEVISE, TO DEVELOP TO PROMOTE AND REGULATE BOXING RULES AND REGULATION IN ALL WEIGHT DIVISION FROM TOP TO BOTTOM WITHOUT EXCEPTION OR EXEMPTION.
WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW, THE BOXING COMMISSION CONDONES AND APPROVES ALL MATCHUPS IN TODAYS’ BOXING. IT IS NOW HIGHTIME FOR THE WORLD BOXING COMMISSION TO ADOPT A SYSTEM OR RULES AS GUIDELINE IN PROMOTING HIGHLY ANTICIPATED MATCHUP THAT IS MORE COMPETITIVE FREE FROM CRITICISM AND DOUBT FROM BOXING FANS WORLDWIDE.
MR. BEN JAMES I SALUTE YOU FOR HAVING THE NERVE TO DISCLOSE WHAT YOU FEEL IS RIGHT FOR PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND
ahahah…..are you kidding? you cant even knock out Margarito and now you’ve been dismantled by a smaller man, you think you have the guts to face Pacquiao?
I TOLD YOU! YOU’RE IN A WRONG BUSINESS/SPORTS…..OR I GUESS YOU COULD NOT JUMP HUH! HEARD ABOUT BASKETBALL?
YAH RIGHT! You have a barrage of punches..excuse me…I mean barrage of FEATHER SLAPS!
THE PUNISHER GOT PUNISHED. THIS JUST GIVES TWO DUCKERS AN EXCAUSE TO DUCK AWAY WILLIAMS.
martinez keep his hands down u cant do that with mayweather he loves playing cat and mouse
Listen to Floyd Mayweather Sr. say he’s “SCARED FOR HIS SON’T LIFE” in this youtube video…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=In16MLvfC8U
.
So much for P-will being a hot commodity for Pac or May. The venue they fought in wasn’t even crowded. I think once May and Pac fight, then a fight with Martinez could happen. Because still the biggest fight out there is May and Pac.
lets see Pacquiao fight the winer of Bradley/ Alezander
Maywether vs Martinez since he wont fight Pacquiao
Pwill vs Berto for Bertos first real test.
@astorga
agree with u completely.
as a fan, we only want to see the best fight the best.
id like to see pacquiao, mayweather and sergio mix it up
Deon, I think you said it all with that post.
@boxer
to highlight floyd and haye are the same, duckers.
@pac gallactichoax
and what exactly would u make of floyd?
pac is the one fighting roadkill.
example: shane mosley is first in line, floyd’s leftovers
need I go on? pac is the king of ducking the top guys and title shopping shop worn fighters for paper titles. Resume does not lie.
no slight to floyd or pac, but u slighted them already.
still, interesting read.
i dont think either will go after martinez
but hey u never know.
boxing after all is stranger than fiction.
I see your point, but I have a question. You call Mayweather a carrion bird? If this is so then what is Paq? He fought Hatton after he’d been KO’d right? DLH weight drained and coming off a loss right? Cotto after being smaaaashed by Margs right? Clottey after losing to a guy (cotto) that came off of two smashings right? Margs after being KO’d and showing an ok performance against a bum right? I have no problem with your opinion but it seems one guy just get’s critisized and the other get some sort of pass. But then again i could be wrong…
@dcupimpin
how could floyd be exposed,
nobody aint got the tools.
@adam boxer
ur minds already bleedin from this brotha.
whatever was said aint gonna change the truth that floyd is unbeatable no matter how people badmouths the loud mouth
floyd would be explose (speed) mosley was having his way 1st ,2nd round until he slow down pac man has speed and counter
@alexia
how will floyd be exposed.
if there’s a way to defeat him, it doesnt exist.
Boxer- read it again!
Pavlic v Williams, yeah i’d like to see that one!
I found this article very intreginf but I have to ask why was David haye mentioned within this article?
Bhop be warned, here’s one less great black hope for u.
floyd is the one true king, enough bs already.
Pwill is a pretender, a no hoper.
floyd is proven not like this lanky, stop comparing.
sergio martinez is good, but not good enough for floyd.
take that u people
@DCUPIMPIN
yap, sure. in a battle of shot fighters
pwill is exposed
like floyd will be
Marquez, Williams, Berto, Mosely, etc, stop already! It is clear as a mirror that you’re only after the Pacquiao megabucks.
You’re not concern about winning, only about being chosen, because being chosen means you automatically get $6 to $10 million. This is a far cry from the $5,000-$10,000 you make now a fight.
Pacquiao can dictate his terms and you will answer, “yes, sir!” You probably will even ask him “what round should I bow, master?”
The only legitimate one for Pacquiao’s next fight is Mayweather. Martinez is the alternative. Not you prentenders!
the reckless fighting Williams has been exposed to what just never quite happened before.He was caught leaning to his right while throwing wildly.That was all Martinez had thrown into a left with all his weight behind it,williams weakness was his chin.Brought down into martinez,s punching power range.Prog will probably do the same to Martinez should they fight.putting your head first into a punch delivery is not suggested.congrats to sergio for a clean shot.he made it look easy.
p.williams vs k.pavlik anyone ?
Hes no where near skillfull enough to face Mayweather and hes way too easy to hit to be facing Pacman. He would be just like Margarito, unable to take any size advantage and would get smashed up.
Hes overrated. Hes not bad, far from it, but Pacman and Mayweather are elite level fighters, Williams isnt.
Marquez going beat katsidis AZZ,then he’s going call out fanny wack man
P.Williams is a confused boxer,he cannot come up and down on weight,especially the welterweight.His age and height right now is well suited for a middleweight,bulk up in a year or two..
get ready for Lt. Heavy.His mindset is to throw a lot of punches
like boxers of the lower weights(Ww and down),this is the Middleweights,and thats how it ended last night…one punch and its lights out.
Paul should quit and try basketball. Williams is to clumsy of a fighter,he hits no style. I’ve always thought of Williams as over rated,the boy suks donkey di€k
Learn to speak english before you try to wax poetic my good foreign friend. And did you really have the unmitigated gumption to claim that Mayweather feasts on the fallen after what Pacquiao has done in his last five fights with opponents coming off of losses and some of them coming off of big losses? What about the fact that Pacquiao is already looking at a fight with Shane Mosley who just lost a one sided decision to Floyd Mayweather? Come on man, being in denial won’t change to truth.
Pacquiao’s a possibility after Floyd Mayweather Sr has just given an interview quoted “If my son fights that little man (Pacquioa) I fear for his life”….the MAYWEATHERS ARE PETRIFIED OF FACING PACQUIAO…THAT FIGHT WILL NEVER EVER EVER HAPPEN, FORGET IT PEOPLE!!!!
Pacquiao should just retire. Nobody can beat him anyway.
Shakespeare at what weight did he fight?
WELL NOW WE ALL KNOW WHO’S PAC GONNA FIGHT AT 142 CATCH WEIGHT AS ALWAYS
Listen man this isnt a history or english class, right proper english about boxing. Not all this shakespear BS!
