Wladimir Klitschko scores 12th round knockout win over Chambers

By Jim Dower Wladimir Klitschko scored a sensational 12th round knockout win over Eddie Chambers tonight in Dusseldorf, Germany to retain his IBF/WBO heavyweight titles. Fighting in front of 51,000 fans, Wladimir put an end to a one-sided fight with a big sweeping left hook to the head of the 27-year-old Chambers in the 12th round with only five seconds to go in the fight. Chambers hit the canvas in a heap, badly hurt from the knockout punch.

The fight was stopped immediately and Chambers corner poured into the ring to check on their hurt fighter. Earlier in the fight, Wladimir had badly hurt Chambers with a massive right hand in the 2nd round. The shot staggered Chambers, causing him to clinch Wladimir to prevent him from throwing any more big shots. Chambers seemed intent on upsetting Klitschko in the 2nd round, throwing him to the canvas at point in the round and picking him up his shoulders. Instead of getting upset about it and letting it get to him, Klitschko stayed composed and continued to throw right hands and jabs at Chambers.

In the 3rd and 4th rounds, Chambers had problems getting inside to land his shots. Wladimir worked his powerful jab from the outside and did a good job of not letting Chambers get too close to him. When Chambers did try to get near Wladimir, the tall 6’6” Ukrainian would stick out his long left hand and hold it out to keep Chambers from drawing near him. Chambers was still able to land a hard shot every now and then, but he had problems putting his punches together because Wladimir was clinching him when he got close. The referee never warned or took points away from Klitschko despite the fact that he grabbed Chambers frequently when he got near.

In rounds five through seven, Klitschko stayed active with his hard jabs, nailing Chambers in the face with them repeatedly. The American fighter seemed uneasy and not sure what to do to get close to Klitschko. Chambers was eating a lot of jabs at this point in the fight and seemed uncomfortable with the power from Wladimir’s right hand shots.

In the 8th round, Klitschko connected with a big right hand to the head of Chambers, but didn’t go after him to add any additional big shots. Chambers continued to land a few shots here and there, but wasn’t able to get enough power on them to really make much of a difference.

Little changed in the 10th and 11th rounds, as Chambers continued to be coming up short in trying to land a big enough shot to do damage. By this time, Chambers was well behind in the fight and needed a knockout to win. In the meantime, Wladimir’s trainer Emanuel Steward seemed upset with the progress of the fight, and urged Wladimir to take Chambers out.

This is exactly what Wladimir did, as he really put in a big effort in the 12th round to go for a knockout. He came out throwing massive bombs from the start of the round and troubled Chambers throughout until finally catching him with a laser left hook with five seconds left that dropped Chambers like a sack of potatoes on the canvas. The bout was quickly stopped.

David Haye is the biggest hype job in the game today he looks like a R Kelly stunt double, bet my house on it Tua will drop him within 4 rounds, Tua will also trouble both drago brothers he is back march 31st,reason why america does not have any good heavies is because you cant use steroids anymore

You are clearly a Wlad hater. You should have your eyes tested. That punch did land. It was a sweeping left hook which caught Chambers on the temple. It was a bit of an arm punch, but look at Wlad’s arms.

You can keep hating. The truth is that Wladimir is a fine tuned machine who will break down and beat any of the current contenders. Results count and he gets results. He doesnt run for 12 rds and throw 10 or 12 punches per round.

    @ your god

    Is that really you god?

Wow all these years i’ve been praying to you and you finally pop up in an internet forum. You really do work in mysterious ways!

  • lou says:

Inkspired look again I just watched the replay on Youtube and it hits Chamber on the Temple. Get some glasses if you don’t see the same.

mike i dont dispute the fact that lewis was behind on points, nor the fact that a rematch was good for all parties, both boxers and fans alike.
credit to vitali for being ahead on points. but,he was still beaten and messed up by lewis who was a great, and to be truthful the last boxer who had any real pedigree.
all the boxers since have been nobodies or out of shape wannabees.
if there are any real world class boxers out there, i think they will both struggle.
and in mu opinion Haye could just be that man, he has a damn sight more pedigree than the likes of Arreola and Chambers. his only downfall might be if he can mix it with the Klitchko’s due to the size and Wlad’s workrate, he certainly has the speed and power to deal with anyone out there at the moment. he could just be the best fighter they have fought since Lewis and Brewster respectively.
Haye is definitely the only one they will have fought with any true pedigree, and world class credentials, even if they were built at cruiserweight.

this fight was a total sham !
the so called knockout punch didnt land, it merely grazed chambers gloves at best ! yet chambers hit the canvas like he’d been hit by a snipers bullet….if thats not a fix or something dodgy then, i’m Muhammed Ali’s uncle.

why he did that when he had lost on points i dont know, but it reall raises questions to the legitimacy of Klitchko’s reign. cos it definitely smells of some form of fix.

  • mike says:

inkspired fnk b4 u tlk Lewis waz well bhnd on points whn the fight was stopd @ why did`nt h gve hm a rematch if h waz dat great gve credt wher is due m8

  • lou says:

At 209lb Chamber has a doughnut roll around his waist line. This means he should be competing at 200lb Crusier Stop the Double whooper’s, All you can eat Popye Fried chicken and you can be champ but a Cruiser

  • Family Guy says:

Where is Lennox Lewis when you need him !! he would beat both boring klitckos..

  • Yankiedoodledo says:

I think Vlad could have taken Chambers out at any time and prolonged the fight to make it look like some kind of a match.

  • Klitschko fan says:

David Hayes is next in line to fall to a Klitschko, as long as Hayes doesn’t continue to run and hide from the bros.

  • The Truth says:

SOLIS WOULD GET BEATEN UP BY ANYONE OF THE KLIT BROS. THE GUY IS EVEN FATTER THAN MOST HEAVYWEIGHT WRESTLERS, HE IS SLOW ON HIS FEET. MOST CUBAN FIGHTERS REMINDS ME OF MOST BRAZILIAN FOOTBALLERS, HIGH ON TALENT, LOW ON DISCIPLINE. THERE IS NO WAY CHAMBERS WOULD HAVE LASTED 4 ROUNDS WITH LEWIS.

  • Pete says:

Its simple – Haye is faster, stronger, bigger and more skilled then Chambers. Klitschko will try to land but Haye can counter punch very well and he hits clean. Barrett said that Haye hits just as hard as Klitschko so I guess we will see.

I rate both Klitschkos but I find Haye’s style much more watchable.

  • Mike says:

rick the point is a) would klitchsko have landed that right hand and b) would he be standing in the 2nd round against haye. Haye hits harder than chambers.

  • rick says:

If Wladimir had fought Haye last night, he would have stopped Haye in the second round. Haye would not have been able to take the type of right hand which Wladimir had landed on Chambers in the second round.

  • rick says:

You think that Wladimir is boring. He does what he needs to do to win. Winning is what counts in boxing. How about Haye then. Do you think that Haye vs Valuev was exciting? Haye ran like a coward for 12 rds and threw about 10 punches per round.

If Wladimir had landed his straight right or the left hook on Haye, Haye would have been KO’d. You Wlad haters can keep up your hate. Wladimir is just too big and skilled, powerful for all of the contenders who dare to challenge him. Solis could cause Wladimir problems, but he will also go down once Wladimir unloads his power shots.

  • Pete says:

RealDeal – You think David Tua would KO the Klitschkos and Haye? Don’t make me laugh. The guy is 38 and has not KO’d a top contender for about 8 years now. I still think Tua could KO a few guys now but not the champions.

He would not get near the Klischkos and would be stopped before the final bell. And David Haye would blast him out much earlier – he throws too fast and too accurately that Tua’s reactions just wouldn’t cut it. I know he is good and I know he is dangerous but I think your living in the past.

  • md says:

More like ‘Fast Food’ Eddie Chambers

  • inkspired says:

realdeal….maybe Tua will knock out the Klitchko’s and Haye.
but, where is the Tuaman my friend.
when will he show his face and commit to taking on one of these fighters ?
so far he has fought no hopers like Cameron and 13 fight novice Cerrone Fox among other no hopers. the last time he fought a real heavyweight was back in 2003 and has fought nobodies sporadically since then. he fights yet another nobody in Friday Ahunanya next….what sort of so called tune up is this then ? surely his calibre of opponent needs to be more than stepped up if he’s to put himself back in the picture !
i say bring back the Tuaman, as he’s truly an exciting fighter capable of beating the current crop of top heavyweights, but looking at his calibre of recent opponents and the length of time he has been missing from the top flight, can he still cut it ? does he still have the desire ?
he needs more than just his knockout punch, and coming back for the dollars doesnt put u back at the top of the tree either.

  • Muzza says:

Like them or not they are Effective at what they do Wining fights. They are Boring to watch but until someone can come and knock them (the Bros) off their perch they will be here as long as they want to be. I’m personally not a big fan of there’s but I have respect for them as Athletes and Fighters.

  • inkspired says:

chambers hit the deck like he’d been shot ! if you look at the close up slow-mo of the knockout punch it didnt land, at bet it glanced chambers gloves !

    fake ! fake ! fake ! fake ! fake ! fake ! fake ! fake ! fake !

  • RMC says:

Over weight (for his size) and out of condition, fast Eddie was only fast for 3 rounds, then after that became a 9 round punch bag. Yet another boring jab fest, because that’s all Wlad had to do to win…again. This fight was so poor (knock out aside) Wlad threw his first uppercut with 1:03 remaining of the 11th, even Manny Steward was begging him to throw more! His inability to finish off poor opponents (seems nervous to engage) will cost him against the first live opponent he faces. Based on his last few performances Wlad will loose against Haye. Vitali is a completely different matter, now everyone can see why this guy lacks the major PPV draw.

  • Uncle Ewald says:

The fight at the Esprit Arena in Düsseldorf last night was a impressive demonstration of controlled and superior boxing displayed by the grand master of heavyweight boxing Wladimir Klitschko. As the ring dust settled we had a pizza faced “Fast Eddie” Chambers down and out but wiser for the experience of having faced one of the very best heavyweights to grace a box ring.

For those that fail to differentiate street fighting from boxing this was of course not their “cup of tea”. Watching Wladimir make “Fast” (Pizza Face) Eddie Chambers appear fearful and inept is something that requires skill and expertise. These hard to come by boxing virtues are exactly what WK brings to each and every bout to the delight of true aficionados of boxing.

  • fact says:

    chambers the hope.lol lol lol

  • Realdeal says:

David Tua will knock both Klitchkos out and then David Hayne as well..

  • Yankiedoodledo says:

Very predictable. No wonder hardly anyone watched it.

  • Bruce says:

Klitchko is a py cat who would never get involved in a tear up because he knows that glass chin would crack to a million pieces, thats why he kept clinching and staying behind that massive reach, he has the heart of a kitty cat, im dumfounded as to why he us such a big draw in Germany, he is SO dull to watch. Please PLEASE hope our Hayemaker will put him and his brother to sleep for good, they suck the life out of heavyweight boxing.

  • Doctor says:

Watched the whole fight and yes I was frustrated Wladimir didn’t finish it earlier, because he could. But his control of the whole fight was a master class. Chambers is the best the Americans can produce and had worked his way there, but had nothing to deliver. Does anybody?.

Everybody who steps in the ring with Wladimir ends up doing exactly the same thing. And the final KO was so subtle you could almost miss it, now that is power.

  • stu says:

i don’t agree that wlad did a lot of clinching. he hardly did any…& when he clinched was the only time chambers unloaded…he was hardly tying up the arms like b-hop does…

  • carlos says:

Man can wait to see someone beat u as klitscho

  • BigricRich says:

Are we really surprised?? Chambers sucks. This is why they didn’t even televise this shot of a fight!

  • coo says:

    chambers sucks ass

  • David says:

    Night Night Chambers lol
