Mayweather Proves he Can beat a Lightweight

By Chris Williams: I kept my word. I didn’t shell out a mint to watch this worthless card. Didn’t I tell everyone that this was going to be a total slaughter? What did you expect? Mayweather came into the fight probably weighing 160 against a pumped up lightweight in Juan Manuel Marquez.

And really, Marquez only recently moved up to the lightweight division, so we’re probably really talking about a pumped up featherweight that Mayweather was facing on Saturday night. That is so crummy. It’s a farce is what it is. With his size, speed and youth advantage going for him, how on Earth could Mayweather not have won the fight?

marquez53434When you put a bigger fighter like Mayweather in with a tiny guy like Marquez, of course Mayweather is going to win the fight every time. I am so glad I didn’t pay the cash to see this. Anytime a fighter hand picks a smaller fighter to fight instead of someone their own size, it’s not a fight that I’m going to buy.

I seriously don’t know how anyone in their right minds could have thought that Marquez had a slimmer of a chance against Mayweather. It’s not that Marquez isn’t a great fighter, but he’s been looking less and less impressive since he moved out of the featherweight division to follow after Manny Pacquiao. Marquez is like a fish out of water and needs to move back down in weight.

He doesn’t belong in the welterweight division fighting middleweight sized opponents like Mayweather. Marquez got a good payday and needs to move back down where he belongs. Pacquiao isn’t going to fight him now that he’s been beaten soundly. I just hope that Marquez understands this and doesn’t hand around the light welterweight division hoping to get a shot at Pacquiao.

As for Mayweather, he’ll obviously go after Pacquiao next if Manny can beat Miguel Cotto in November. Pacquiao stands no chance against Mayweather, especially if Floyd comes in as big as he was last night. Mayweather’s head looked huge, almost as big as Marquez’s shoulder length. He looked like he was going to eat Marquez up like a big dinosaur.

Pacquiao couldn’t handle a fighter Mayweather’s size, although if the two of them were the same size, I think Pacquiao could destroy Mayweather. But Floyd will probably be far too big for Pacquiao to handle and we’ll end up seeing another mismatch. I’m just wondering who Mayweather will go after once he beats Pacquiao.

I don’t know of any featherweights or super featherweights that are popular enough to get a mega fight that the foolish boxing public would be willing to pay for. But then again, Marquez wasn’t exactly popular either and Mayweather made a mint fighting him. Never underestimate the garbage that the boxing public is willing to pay for.

And, yeah, it sounds like the undercard fights were bad as well. I knew Chris John was going to dominate Rocky Juarez. He did it last time but was screwed out of a decision in Houston, and I couldn’t see the point of a rematch. Who John needs to be giving a rematch to is Marquez. He beat Marquez by one of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen before in all the years I’ve been watching boxing.

I also knew that Michael Katsidis was going to beat Vicente Escobedo. I could tell who was going to win just by looking at the pre-fight weigh-in. Escobedo looked like he was a condemned man going to his execution, while Katsidis looked confident.
