Cotto-Pacquiao: Only High Priced Tickets Remaining – News

By M. Perez: There are only 1000 tickets left for the November 14th clash between Manny Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 KO’s) and WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (34-1, 27 KO’s) at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 9000 lower priced seats in the arena, which sell for $150 to $500, have sold out already, leaving only the high priced ones for $750 to $1000. Those, too, will likely sell out soon due to the popularity of this fight.

Pacquiao, 30, the smaller fighter, was only two years ago fighting at 130 in the super featherweight division. On November 14th, Pacquiao will be fighting the champion Cotto at a 145 catch weight and will be attempting to win a seventh world title in seven divisions.

pacquiao452327Pacquiao will have his work cut out for him because Cotto, 28, is probably a lot better than Pacquiao’s recent opponents Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton as far as still being in his prime. Pacquiao’s wins over Hatton and De La Hoya likely won’t have given Pacquiao much preparation for what he’ll be facing against Cotto.

Indeed, the wins may lull Pacquiao – and his trainer Freddie Roach – into a false sense of invincibility and could cause Pacquiao to have problems if Cotto doesn’t fold as easily as De La Hoya and Hatton did. Those fights were one-sided from the beginning and stayed that way until the end. That likely won’t be the case for the Cotto fight, because he’s used to being hit by much stronger fighters than Pacquiao.

The real question is what will Pacquiao do if Cotto doesn’t fold up like De La Hoya and Hatton did? Pacquiao had major problems against Juan Manuel Marquez in March 2008, whom he also tried to blitz early on in the fight with a strong attack. Pacquiao had problems when Marquez stayed on his feet and began to use his boxing skills and counter punches to get the better of Pacquiao in the fight.

As the rounds wore on, it seemed pretty clear that Pacquiao was in deep trouble and on the verge of losing the bout.

The same thing may happen in the Cotto bout, although I’m counting on the judges getting it right this time and scoring it fairly. Cotto won’t go away easily and I can see Pacquiao having some serious problems when he sees that he has a real fight in front of him.

At that point, Roach is going to have to dig deep to try and find some of his pearls of wisdom to try and save Pacquiao from suffering a loss. As we saw last weekend, Roach’s expertise came up empty when his fighter Bernabe Conception was dominated and then ultimately disqualified in a fight against Steven Luevano.

  • catchweight? marquez and mayweather are also in a catchweight its even 144. . its unhuman. . i mean nobody could ever do what manny does inside the ring. . from 106-147 could you imagine that? mayweather started at featherweight. . do you thing he could go up against klitschko or james toney? think about it. . =)

  • pretty boy says:

JSS you better tell your manny not to be a catchweight king for money fight best guys in their division. it seems that you are the only one who do not understand the sport were talking here. if your opponent s always on your face what the hell are you going to do? Counterpunch! Mosley-cotto. Margarito-Cotto. you analyze and see the diff. you stupid.

  • JSS says:

Perez – Cotto is not a counter-puncher, at all! JMM is the best counter-puncher in boxing to date; and for you to say that Cotto is just a as much as a counter-puncher as JMM really shows that you don’t know the sport (of boxing) at all. What if, Mr. Perez, MP does pound Cotto into submission? Just for argument sake, what then? would you then give MP his due or would you just say that Cotto was weight drained, dehydrated, has-been, spent, not in his prime…or all the other excuse that haters give? What then Mr. Perez, if MP pulls a miracle and wins his 7th title, and solidifies his place in boxing history and maybe even a place in boxing’s ATG list.

  • M. Perez says:

HOw about Mayweather vs marquez. . that would be all time greats. . lol =)

  • Cotto_to_snap_Pac'shead says:

I also think so, Cotto will snap Pac’s head-off. It is scary though. But, what can we expect. Cotto is a real welter fighting Pac,a lightweight.

According to Roger Mayweather, Pacquiao has serious balls in fighting bigger guys like Cotto.

  • pretty boy says:

Manny will get KO’ed in 3. I think this will be the first time he will get a real punch from a real welter.

  • Anonymous says:

give props to mayweather/marquez fight im gonna watch that too.

  • Anonymous says:

dont believe the hype manuel perez is filipino

  • PacottoMan says:

I just hope this fight will live up to its expectation…More than the Hatton fihgt. I want to see 12 brutal round and may the best man win. Pac and Cotto are my two favorite fighters and win or lose..hope they continue to fight the best of the best..unlike Mayweather, the self proclaimed lose money cash cow….

  • give the man his props!! says:

Still trying to promote Marquez’s fight with Mayweather, huh? That fight will be a dud…The promoters, HBO, pay-per-view etc… will all lose money. No one wants to see it..and… Marquez is going down…low blow down and losing down..Manuela!!!!Mayweather will kick Marquez’s A55!!!

  • jason says:

yes i know, cotto has big different from other opponent of pacman… cotto does’nt fold easily like hatton and dela hoya? and how sure you are? don’t you think mannys power and speed is the same like in 130pounds,manny impoves everything very completeley, and are you sure too if rematch with marquez and morales will not kissing the floor again in high division if they fight again…do not think 130lbs and 140 above has same power.. manny 2losses is coming from only in early in his career only very very small and drained so much.watch it.. while 1 of three loss came from morales while accidentally headbutt has there and manny cant see his opponent but he always fighting back even using 1 eye only, very empressive fight of manny..but that is only in 130 pounds,, correction…. are your sure manny loss of 2 fight with marquez? hahahahaha … 1st fight 1 judge admit that he was wrong in score card and real winner is manny he put 1 point to marquez instead to manny.you know manny is not popular that time. review guys review it.. in 2nd fight too review again..

  • Shadow says:

by the way i never lost.. i was 17-0 with 13kos but i have a lung problem.. my lung started collapsing due to blisters on my lung. Had a surgery to fix it but it’s been too long and i’m taking the risk

  • Shadow says:

lol Ozzie .. when have a ever said anything about hating Pacquiao? you know, a lot of people can read but being able to understand what you read is the trick… otherwise they’re just words. I don’t take anything away from Pacman.. in fact when the fight was first announced i was extremely excited .. as a fan of both… even though then my prediction was still for Cotto to win.

However it’s not in the ring that i have a problem with Pacquiao it’s out. Pushing some thing to get a good deal is ok. Manipulating an entire situation to get everything you want regardless of what should be is a disgrace to the sport and sportsmanship. If i hated Pacman i wouldn’t have paid $50 to see him destroy someone i really do hate.. Hatton. why would i pay to see 2 guys i hate.

    My point is… ..
do you still want in on the Pacquiao-blood-stained shirt after the Cotto fight or not?

  • Better_Perez says:

I think M. Perez article this time is much better.

I agree his points that indeed Cotto is tougher than any of Pacquiao’s previous opponents. Except for speed, Cotto has all the advantages in height, size, age, strength, and undoubtedly power to maul opponents. Cotto is also an underrated counterpuncher. He used it when defeating Mosley. The fight is Cotto’s domain and Pacquiao is just a challenger coming from other territory.

Cotto has already in full blast training mode while Pacquiao is still busy flirting with his movie hot girls. For sure, Cotto is seriously well prepared this time. At 145lb, Cotto is expected to be quicker and fitter than can maintain his high stamina throughout the contest.

Pacquiao will get a painful, head-snapping blows if he tries to go on full offense with more powerful Cotto. If Pacquiao will do similar tactics against ODLH, Cotto can easily counterpunch Pacquiao. Unlike Marquez, Cotto can potentially put Pacquiao into sleep.

Note pacfans, Cotto has a higher knockout rate than Pacquiao. Cotto also defeated quality opponents before and his only loss is from the questionable hands of Margarito while Pacquiao suffered 3 losses, 2 of which from KO’ed. This will be third KO loss.

  • OZZIE says:

ive posted this on another article as response to shadows comments but here she goes again, to you my friend!

Shadow, are you a real boxing fan or just another biatch whining over Pacquiao? As i see it, a true boxing fan gives credit to any fighter regardless of accomplishment and coming from you who claim to have boxed before, you should appreciate the work and professionalism fighters put into to get a fight yet judging from your recent post, you hate pacquiao so much you then resort to insults. Boxing , last I heard was a sport and of all people ( you claiming to have boxed before)seem to have so much hate for the guy. Whats he done to you personally? Did you hate on your opponents before as well even after the bell? I guess you werent very good since youd beaten yourself already in the head and now you continue as a keyboard warrior, pathetic! Enjoy any boxing fight you see, appreciate the fighters regardless who they are and move on, get a life mate!

  • doge says:

Excuses, excuses. I guess PACMAN is just lucky guy to KOed or all these guys. He has no skill but opponents looses to him anyway. I’m sure if he wins this fight it would be another excuse. Think about this….if pacman is just a counter puncher, first it would be boring and he will win the fight due to points. the reason the fights are very close or lap sided is because he fight to win by KO or be offensive that is why he’s that good because he is willing to take risk. The other guys just there to box as little as possible to just win the fight by points or win by showing that they good looking boxing skills but lack substance — that should be criticize more because those kinds of boxing are more calculated and artificial.. and you know who I am talking about.

  • Shadow says:

lol me as a knobhead .. if Pacquiao wins well then i guess i would have to start the Pacquiao-blood-stained shirt bidding at $250.00 why? did u want it?

dude, if Pacquiao wins i’ll take the my words and shove ‘em… what else can i do? just like every one else i’m making a prediction… my prediction was cotto comes out the victor.

So when Cotto wins… i’ll start the bidding… i’ll only be 6 rows back so i should get some good blood on the shirt

  • Knobhead shadow in love with m perez says:

if pacman wins after the fight, what are you going to do??
