By Allan Fox: Former WBO light welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov (24-3, 17 KOs) is excited about the thought of getting inside the ring to face the highly ranked 140lb contender Lucas Matthysse (36-3, 34 KOs) for a fight that could take place on 3/28 if the fight can get negotiated.
Provodnikov is currently training with Freddie Roach at his Wildcard Gym in Los Angeles, California to get ready for his next fight, whether that is against Matthysse or another contender.

Matthysse hasn’t faced a big name since his loss to Danny Garcia in 2013, and Provodnikov is still trying to turn his career around after getting out-boxed by Chris Algieri last year in June in losing his WBO light welterweight title.

Both fighters are up for the clash, and their promoters are on board for the fight as well. Provodnikov’s promoter Artie Pelullo wants to make the fight happen. However, if he’s unable to negotiate the fight, he’ll look to match the 30-year-old Provodnikov up against either Manny Pacquiao or Brandon Rios, according to RingTV.
