Macklin: I lost to Martinez because switched off a little bit upstairs
By Scott Gilfoid: Matthew Macklin partly explains his 11th round stoppage defeat to Sergio Martinez last night as resulting from him not moving his head as much as he had earlier in the round and dealing with fatigue that has begun to set in around that time of the fight. However, I think Macklin isn’t giving Martinez credit for stepping up his game after having been knocked down by Macklin the 7th.

Martinez too much for Macklin; Rodriguez defeats George
By Jim Dower: WBC Diamond middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (49-2-2, 28 KO’s) had a little bit harder than expected time in beating tough challenger Matthew Macklin (28-4, 19 KO’s) by an 11th round retirement on Saturday night at the Madison Square Garden, New York, New York. Macklin: I’m bigger and stronger than Sergio Martinez
(Photo: Sumio Yamada) By Sean McDaniel: 28-year-old Matthew Macklin (28-3, 19 KO’s) sees himself as the bigger and stronger of the two in his fight against Sergio Martinez (48-2-2, 27 KO’s) on Saturday night. However, Macklin, 5’10”, is the exact same size as the 5’10” Martinez and has a shorter reach at 72″ compared to Martinez’s 75″. This could be telling because Macklin is a pretty average fighter on the outside and almost has to get in close to land his shorter punches on the inside.
