Khan-Peterson
Amir Khan = taller version of Paulie Malignaggi with better hand speed
By Michael Lieberman: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan was pretty well exposed in his fight with Marcos Maidana in December. Not only did Khan barely win the fight by a 12 round decision after getting hurt in the 10th and having to cling to Maidana in the last three rounds, Khan also showed that he doesn’t have the power to break an egg in that fight. What I saw in Khan in that fight was a taller, slightly faster version of Paulie Malignaggi, albeit without Malignaggi’s sturdy chin.
Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson on April 16th at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England – News
By William Mackay: According to inside sources, World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan will be taking on #6 ranked World Boxing Association contender Lamont Peterson (28-1-1, 14 KO’s) on April 16th at the MEN Arena, in Manchester, England. The fight will be shown on Sky Sports. It’s a weird choice for Khan to make given that Peterson is ranked below #2 ranked Victor Ortiz, less popular than him and got what many people felt was a gift 10 round draw against Ortiz after getting knocked down twice in the fight.
If Khan beats Lamont Peterson on 4/16, Juan Manuel Marquez could be next
By Michael Lieberman: Light hitting light welterweight contender Lamont Peterson (28-1-1, 14 KO’s) is looking like the next opponent for WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) on April 16th. If Khan defats Peterson, there’s talk of Khan facing the much smaller lightweight Juan Manuel Marquez. This is a fight that Khan was eager to make last year but Marquez wasn’t interested in the fight at that time. He is now. Marquez needs the bout with khan to get a good payday and also to show Manny Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum that he’s capable of beating bigger fighters.
Khan says he won’t be fighting Katsidis next
By William Mackay: Well it looks like WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) won’t be fighting Australian Michael Katsidis (27-3, 22 KO’s) next after all. Khan revealed on his twitter page that he doesn’t plan on fighting Katsidis next, saying “Morning all, just for your information, I ain’t fighting Michael Katsidis and we ain’t even got him in our mix.” It’s nice to know there is mix and not just one opponent dialed in already.
Khan denies taking performance enhancing drugs
By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) is denying that he’s been taking performance enhancing drugs to assist him in his career. This is in response to some rumors that have been circulating around about him. In an article at the dailystar.co.uk, Khan said “It is hurtful. I am drug tested and have never tested positive because I am so clean. I don’t even drink. I would never, ever take a banned substance. I would never cheat in sport. Why would I want to cheat in sport or take drugs? I am too scared to take something like that because I train so hard and my body is so fit.”
Fighters that will lose in 2011: Haye, Khan and Froch
By Scott Gilfoid: I have bad news for British boxing fans. Some of their biggest heros, Amir Khan, Carl Froch and David Haye, are very likely going to lose in 2011 and take major beatings in the process. It’s part of boxing for a fighters to get whipped but these guys are long overdue. Khan already almost got taken apart recently in his fight with Marcos Maidana. I called it a draw and I don’t think Khan proved a thing in that fight other than he still has a glass jaw. He’ll get destroyed by Timothy Bradley or Devon Alexander. Maidana and Breidis Prescott would cremate Khan if given a rematch. They won’t get one, of course.
Khan dismissive of Brook challenge
Is Amir Khan vastly overrated and way over-hyped??
By Allen Hmiel: Amir Khan seemingly a golden child of boxing the English Muslim under the direction of the legendary Freddie Roach is on a collision course with destiny. Or is he? Could Amir Khan be one of the most overhyped boxers of the modern age? Ko’d violently by a very average Prescott has left the Khan doubters with enough ammo to last forever. With a suspect chin and apparently no real defense outside of his bronze face stopping repeated blows to the head Khan seems to be making a transparent reputation as a boxer with extremely fast hands good movement and absolutely no defense and a very average punch.
