Burns thinks he’d do well against Beltran in rematch

burns5By Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2-1, 11 KO’s) is really disappointed that the World Boxing Organization won’t let him fight a rematch against Raymundo Beltran (28-6-1, 17 KO’s) straightaway in his next fight rather than having to fight #1 WBO Terence Crawford (22-0, 16 KO’s) first, as Burns feels that he has unfinished business with Beltran that he’d like to take care of first before he moves on to a title defense against his mandatory challenger Crawford. Unfortunately for Burns, the WBO ordered that he fight Crawford next so there’s no getting around it and all the wishful thinking that he has is a waste of time.

Burns said to Sky Sports “If he [Beltran] couldn’t get the job finished with a guy with a broken jaw, what would a rematch be like?

Hearns wants Burns-Beltran rematch or unification bout

burns534By Scott Gilfoid: The World Boxing Organization ordered WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2-1, 11 KO’s) and his promoter Eddie Hearn from Matchroom Sport to begin negotiations with #1 WBO Terrence Crawford (22-0, 16 KO’s) and his promoter Top Rank for a fight. However, Hearn is going to try and get permission from the WBO to let Burns steer around Crawford and instead either face #3 WBO Raymundo Beltran in a rematch or fight a unification bout against either Miguel Vazquez or Richard Abril.

Hearn said via Sky Sports “I have asked the WBO for a voluntary defense against Beltran in February. I am also in talks with Miguel Vazquez and Richard Abril regarding a unification bout that would supercede a mandatory defense…The fight everyone wants to see is Beltran and it is the right fight for boxing.”

Beltran: I know what to expect from Burns

burns453By Scott Gilfoid: #3 WBO, Raymundo Beltran (28-6-1, 17 KO’s) says he knows exactly what to expect from WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2-1, 11 KO’s) in their rematch this March in Glasgow, Scotland, if the fight gets made. Beltran figures that Burns will use the same fight strategy that he used last time with Burns running and clinching constantly without receiving warnings or point deductions from the referee for the excessive holing.

Beltran totally dominated Burns in their fight last September in Scotland, but the judges scored it a 12 round draw by the following scores: 115-112 for Burns, 114-114, and 115-113 for Beltran. Two of those scores were as bad as the one judge that scored the Floyd Maywather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez a draw. There was nothing close at all about the Beltran-Burns fight.

Did Beltran know too Much?

By Robbie Bannatyne: When the fight between Ricky Burns vs. Raymundo Beltran commenced last Saturday at the SECC, Glasgow, Scotland I was intrigued to see the 1st statement of intent from the 32-year-old Mexican challenger Beltran, a long time sparring partner of the great Manny Pacquiao. Having admittedly not seen much of Beltran in action, I initially thought his ultra composed approach was simply his favored fighting style. But, then, as the rounds wore on, on it occurred to me that something seemed to be having an indelible influence on Beltran’s approach.

Burns vs. Beltran: The Rematch

By Robbie Bannatyne: I recently submitted an article about how Ricky Burns must ‘Abandon a Rematch with Beltran’ on the premise that Beltran, although thoroughly deserving of a rematch, was just too dangerous an opponent for Burns to once again risk his title against, especially after suffering a broken jaw in their 1st clash.

This conviction attracted a lot of consternation in the comments from readers who vented their ‘rage’ and insisted that I was talking, as one reader put it, succinctly, ‘a lot bollocks!’

Ricky Burns must abandon rematch with Beltran

By Robbie Bannatyne: Despite the rhetoric coming from Eddie Hearn, Matchroom supremo and promoter of Ricky Burns, that the World Champion ‘may never box again’ after suffering a broken jaw in his highly controversial draw over Mexican Raymundo Beltran, it now appears, at least according to the comments made to the BBC, by his manager Alex Morrison, that the Scot, told ESPN that he will “definitely fight again, one million per cent.”

Burns has jaw surgery, his career in doubt

By Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns is recovering from jaw surgery after having had his jaw broken by the hard hitting challenger Raymundo Beltran last Saturday night in Glasgow, Scotland. No one gave Beltran much of a shot to win the fight except for me. I knew he was going to whip Burns. Beltran ended up giving Burns a real beating and then getting jobbed by the judges with the fight being scored a 12 round draw.

Burns gifted hometown decision

By Sean Carpenter: Unlike many writers you may read I don’t have a blind hate towards any fighters and appreciate the hard work and dedication they give to the sport! After watching tonight’s fight between WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2-1, 11 KO’s) and Raymundo Beltran (26-6-1, 17 KO’s) with the sound off as I usually do so I can make my own mind up as to how the fights went, I have to say I could only really give Ricky maybe 2 rounds that coupled with the knock down I saw it as a land slide!
