Bellew and Haye verbally spar

bellew000

By Adam Godfrey: A potential fight between recently returned British Heavyweight David Haye and current WBC Cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew must, according to Haye, take place at Heavyweight, if it is to occur at all. Haye has not fought at Cruiserweight for 8 years, and considering his advancing age and only recent return from retirement, it is unlikely that he’ll be able to come down to the 200lb weight limit without being severely weight-drained.

‘I’m not going to go back down to a less-glamorous division than the one I’m in now for a loud-mouthed guy like him’, Haye told Mirror Sport.

Hearn: Haye-Bellew is priority for March

hearn100

By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says heavyweight David Haye is the priority fight for WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew for his next fight on March 4th over Bellew’s World Boxing Council mandatory challenger Mairis Briedis. Bellew defeated BJ Flores by a 3rd round knockout last Saturday night at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England. There’s not much to say about that fight other than it was a mismatch the moment the fight contract was signed. Bellew did what most boxing fans expected him to do in stopping the hapless 37-year-old Flores after knocking him down three times in the fight.

The low lights of the fight was Bellew hitting Flores with low blow in the 2nd round, and then pounding him while he was defenseless until he hit the canvas. A further low was the referee failing to do anything about Bellew’s low blow. Flores never recovered from the knockdown. Two more knockdown came in the 2nd and then another knockdown in the 3rd. Flores never had a chance.

Bellew asks Haye to agree to fight

bellew964

By Scott Gilfoid: WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew is eager to get heavyweight David Haye to commit to a pay-per-view fight between them RIGHT Now, otherwise he says he’s going to move on to other big fights like unification fights in the cruiserweight division. It appears to some boxing fans that Bellew is looking for a “cash out” fight to get a big payday on pay-per-view before gets beaten by one of his contenders at cruiserweight.

If Bellew doesn’t get the “cash out” fight against Haye, he’ll soon have to fight his #1 WBC mandatory challenger Mairis Briedis, who he should have already fought in his first defense. It looks to some boxing fans like Bellew is dodging the Brieidis fight, because the guy like a giant asteroid heading towards Bellew and he’s not going to be able to stop him once he makes impact.

Bellew: I want to kick Haye’s backside

bellew000

By Scott Gilfoid: Fresh off his victory over the aging 37-year-old fringe contender BJ Flores from last Saturday night, WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew is now targeting heavyweight David Haye for his next fight in 2017. Bellew knocked out Flores in the 3rd round at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England in a voluntary defense. Haye and Bellew want to fight each other on pay-per-view in the UK. Is it a fight that will sell? I’d watch Bellew-Haye on free television, but Id NEVER pay to see a joke fight like this on pay-perr-view.

Without Bellew having fought at heavyweight before, how do you believe the fight would be a real fight and not just a rip off circus type of match? I think Bellew and Haye are doing it wrong. If they want to fight each other and make a killing in pay-per-view, then Bellew needs to vacate his WBC cruiserweight title, and then move up to heavyweight and beat one of the following heavyweights: Shannon Briggs, Kubrat Pulev, Luis Ortiz, Joseph Parker, Andy Ruiz Jr., Alexander Povetkin, Carlos Takam, Eric Molina, or Jarrell Miller.

Haye: I’ll KO Tony Bellew with a jab

bellew96

By Scott Gilfoid: WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew (28-2-1, 18 KOs) failed to impress heavyweight David Haye with his 3rd round knockout win over Haye’s friend BJ Flores (32-3-1, 20 KOs) on Saturday night at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England. Bellew called Haye out after the fight, saying he wants to fight him.

Bellew even jumped over the ropes WWE style and had to be restrained by the security staff when he tried to get to Haye. The whole thing looked HORRIBLY staged. The security was already there waiting, and Bellew’s theatrics looked unbelievable.

Tony Bellew vs. BJ Flores – Results

bellew87

By Scott Gilfoid: World Boxing Council cruiserweight champion Tony “Bomber” Bellew (28-2-1, 18 KOs) successfully defended his title on Saturday in defeating bear bottom ranked #14 WBC fringe contender BJ Flores (32-3-1, 20 KOs) by a 3rd round knockout at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England. Bellew knocked Flores down four times in the fight all total. Three of the knockdowns came in round three. The final knockdown came from a left hook to the head of Flores in the 4th.

(Tony Bellew pictured above needing to be held back from David Haye after the fight)

Flores did make it up at the count of 10, but referee Ian John Lewis halted the fight anyway. It didn’t really matter that Flores beat the count, but he had no punch resistance or punching power. He would have been knocked out if the fight had gone on much longer.

Bellew vs. Flores analysis and prediction

bellew111

By Scott Gilfoid: WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew (27-2-1, 17 KOs) will put his WBC title on the line tonight against challenger BJ Flores (32-2-1, 20 KOs), who was picked out from the No.14 spot in the World Boxing Council’s rankings. Bellew is talking big, as if he’s facing the best contender in the cruiserweight division rather than a handpicked fighter nearing 40.

Flores is 37, and it seems pretty obvious why Bellew and his promoter Eddie Hearn picked him rather than his #1 WBC contender Mairis Briedis, who Bellew was supposed to be facing for his first defense. If the WBC had forced Bellew to face his mandatory challenger in Briedis tonight, we’d likely be seeing the handing over of a title ceremony from Bellew to Briedis instead of what could be a mismatch in the Bellew-Flores fight.

Haye: Flores will beat Bellew

haye7

By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight David Haye expects BJ Flores (32-2-1, 20 KOs) to pull off a big upset this Saturday night by unseating new WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew (27-2-1, 17 KOs) in their fight at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England. It won’t be an upset in Haye’s mind, as he sees Flores as simply the better fighter of the two.

Haye is well aware of the kind of talent the 37-year-old Flores has going for him, as he’s a good friend of his. Haye sees Flores’s thicker build as being key for him being the tall and thin Bellew in this fight. However, if Bellew does win, he would like to discuss putting a fight against him in the near future.

Watch: Bellew vs. Flores official weights

bellew700

By Scott Gilfoid: WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew (27-2-1, 17 KOs) made weight on Friday in coming in at 199 ¼ pounds for his first and possibly his only title defense against challenger BJ Flores (32-2-1 20 KOs) for their fight on Sky Sports on Saturday night at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.

Bellew looked thin with a little bit of loose flesh around his midsection area. This is normal for him though. Those stubborn pounds just seem to stick to Bellew’s sides no matter how much hard work he puts in. I think Bellew could carve up his midsection if he worked REALLY hard, but he might not be strong once the last bit of flab comes off his midsection.
