Marquez insisting on Diaz tune-up on 7/16

Image: Marquez insisting on Diaz tune-up on 7/16By Dan Ambrose: Rather than sitting it out until his big money fight against Manny Pacquiao in November, Juan Manuel Marquez (52-5-1, 38 KO’s) is insisting on a tune-up fight against former IBF lightweight champion David Diaz (36-3-1, 17 KO’s) on July 16th to help get ready for Pacquiao. In part, one of the reasons that Marquez wants to fight Diaz is because, like Pacquiao, Diaz is a southpaw.

Marquez to fight David Diaz first and then Pacquiao

Image: Marquez to fight David Diaz first and then PacquiaoBy Gerardo Granados: The fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez is almost a done deal. Marquez has already signed the contract and agreed to a 144 pound catchweight. A date has been set, November 12th, but Marquez will be facing Diaz first in July. If Diaz pulls off an upset or injures Marquez, then he would become another candidate for the upset of the year and will ruin the plans for the third bout between Marquez and Pacquiao.

Pacquiao-Clottey predictions: Clottey, Soto, Medina and Gomez will win

Image: Pacquiao-Clottey predictions: Clottey, Soto, Medina and Gomez will winBy Esteban Garduno: Tonight’s fight at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium is mostly filled with mismatches of the worst kind. On paper, the bout between Joshua Clottey and Manny Pacquiao figures to be an easy win for Pacquiao over a limited Clottey, but I see Clottey pulling off a huge upset over Pacquiao tonight to spoil Manny’s party. Clottey will stay in Pacquiao’s face, make him work harder than he has in ages, take his shots and punish the Filipino. Pacquiao has become accustomed to beating up on over-matched opponents and Clottey isn’t going to go down like the other guys that have been fed to Pacquiao in the past two years.

Khan Not Interested in Fighting Barrera Again

khan54346By Jim Dower: In news that doesn’t shock me one bit, British lightweight Amir Khan (20-1, 15 KOs) isn’t interested in fighting Marco Antonio Barrera (65-7, 43 KOs) again. This after beating the former super featherweight champion Barrera by a 5th round technical decision on March 14th, a fight in which Barrera was cut badly on the upper forehead in the 1st round. The fight was allowed to continue by the ringside doctor until the 5th, at which point it was stopped, giving Khan, 22, the victory.
