Arreola not interested in Deontay Wilder bout

arreola444By Scott Gilfoid: Fresh off his victory over Seth Mitchell last Saturday night, #3 WBC heavyweight contender Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) ruled out a fight between him and the talented unbeaten U.S heavyweight knockout artist Deontay Wilder (29-0, 29 KO’s).

Arreola has respect for the 6’7” Deontay, and sees him as a quality heavyweight, but he’s more interested in trying to get a title shot against the WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko.

Arreola thinks Vitali won’t be defending his WBC title any longer. If that’s the case then Arreola says he wants to fight #2 WBC Bermane Stiverne for what will be the vacant WBC title.

Arreola said to Hustleboss.com “Deontay’s a good fighter, man. I got to give him more credit than this guy [Seth Mitchell]…as far as fighting him, I don’t see it happening at all. I’m moving onto bigger things. I’m here for a world title. Klitschko looks like he’s not going to come back. So I might have to get a rematch with Bermane Stiverne.”

Deontay saw the interview, and responded with this message on his twitter, “Chris, bro, come on man fans & the state of boxing in America need this entertainment. The best w/the best!”

I think Deontay might be wasting his time in trying to pursue a fight with Arreola, because he already got trounced by one big 6’8” heavyweight in his loss to Vitali in 2009, and I don’t think he wants a second helping against an even more powerful, faster and athletic fighter in Deontay.

It would be like Arreola signing up for a loss, and he’s not going to do that. Arreola must realize how good Deontay is after he saw him fight, and it wouldn’t be a good thing for him to get getting picked apart with his huge shots. Arreola doesn’t have the size or reach to compete with a super heavyweight like Deontay.
