Will Mayweather want a rematch with Mosley if he gets brutally knocked out?

By Dave Lahr: Okay, so Floyd Mayweather Jr. is taking on WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley on May 1st. We already know that Mayweather hasn’t been exactly the busiest of fighters in the past three yrears. The guy has only fought one time against Juan Manuel Marquez, who was smaller, slower and coming up in weight for the fight. Beyond that, Mayweather has been taking on other smaller fighters like Ricky Hatton and Zab Judah, and beating them on size alone.
Would Mayweather want a rematch with Mosley or would he figure it’s better off to leave it alone and go after Manny Pacquiao finally without all the random blood tests involved. Would Mayweather’s ego be able to take being knocked out? That would probably be a huge blow for him to get stretched by Mosley, because his invincibility would be shattered with one swing by Mosley. You never know how Mayweather would react to something like getting royally creamed by Mosley.
Part of me thinks that Mayweather’s sense of revenge would kick in and drive him for a rematch, but I’m not so sure. I think the fear of getting beaten up again might cause Mayweather to back off and go in another direction. It’s one thing getting knocked out once by a fighter, but a whole different matter to get brutally KO’ed a second time.
Mayweather couldn’t make excuses if he got knocked out twice in a row. That’s why I think Mayweather would figure he’d better off leaving Mosley alone and just going after Pacquiao. There wouldn’t be anything to lose at that point if Mayweather fought Pacquiao. If he lost then, it would be big deal. He already got destroyed by Mosley, so there’s no point in crying about it. But I think a knockout loss to Mosley would be a real killer for Mayweather’s ego and I think he’d have a hard time dealing with it. I could just see Mayweather looking crushed for days after a loss to Mosley. I think Mayweather might even retire rather than risk getting beaten up and knocked out again.

Get your facts straight – Pacquaio didn’t refuse the testing, niver said he was afraid of needles (that was from his stupid handlers and wannabe managers). Pacaqiao believes that taking blood was his downfall against Morales 2 days before fight night. He said he was willing to do the testing before and after the fight with a 24 day cutoff. His head didn’t grow you morons, what are you guys looking at??? The last fight he lost was vs. Morales and on fight night weighed 144 – coincidentally, that’s what he comes in to weigh @ the 147 lb. div. get over it…they are both at fault.

PacMan and his team did a smart move to walk away from Floyd Jr’s BS unprecedented ridiculous random blood testing. Why Floyd Jr. is singling out PacMan to do the random BS apart from his previous 40 opponents? C’mon, Why? PacMan agreed the blood test 24 days before the fight and right after the fight. But why Floyd Jr. was so hard and finally, exhausted the whole negotiation process? According to one of Mayweather team advisers, to fight PacMan is no win situation of Floyd Jr. and it would be his 1st severe lost. PacMan has been always ready to fight Floyd Jr. but it’s so known now that Floyd Jr. is scared of PacMan…Period.
During and after that Megafight negotiation, Mosley was already matched up to fight Berto. PacMan team had no option for PacMan to fight Mosley and they had settled to pick Clottey after that Megafight fiasco.
Clottey was one of those tough contenders in the welterweight, a lot of people were surprised that he didn’t trade a close in fight toe-to-toe to PacMan that Clottey used to do of his previous opponents. Clottey did it to survive and avoided a knock out from PacMan domination. The result of the fight was boring.
Now you see the real facts and don’t ever twist it with your bunch of lies. So, if you want to argue again with all your nonsense. Forget it. Smart people will never believe you.

SSM paid him a visit, on his turf, offering him every possible advantage and he still turned down the fight. If he really wanted to fight Floyd, at that time, 14 days would’ve been enough of a window. Those were HIS choices. NOW that Floyd is fighting SSM, Wapakman says “I got next”…GTFOH! The rematch clause is a security blanket for Floyd (He seems to have a lot of insecurities). But after being beaten by Old Mosley, I don’t think PACMAN would be interested in fighting Floyd even if he drops his random blood testing. Come on man! PBF asked PacMan no less/no more than he asked of SSM, regarding the testing. Well…i take that back. He asked PacMan to do LESS than what he asked of SSM (by the end of the negotiations), regarding the testing! And that still was NOT enough to get PacMan in the ring. PBF built a rematch into the SSM contract. Did he do the same for Manny? NO. This could very well mean that as long as he was secure in the fact that PacMan was not using any PED’s for their fight (hence, he asked for the best testing available), he did not believe this fight would even be close. No built-in rematch clause necessary.
Some will argue, he put in the rematch clause w/ SSM to avoid a fight with Pac or spoil a fight with SSM and Pac (should SSM win). I don’t think so. Manny expressed NO interest in fighting SSM until AFTER PBF was scheduled to fight him. PBF will do what makes business sense. If the fight is close enough to warrant a rematch, and there is money to be made, then a rematch makes sense. If he gets brutally KO’d by SSM, I don’t see him excercising that rematch clause right away, if at all (unless he was simply caught by a lucky punch…even then he shouldn’t get right back in the ring). If he somehow gets outboxed by SSM, I can see him wanting a rematch. In any case, Manny put HIMSELF on the outside looking in. So, he will just have to wait his turn, now. But, hey…there’s plenty of other opponents out there for the P4P “King”, right? So, he should choose a WORTHY one, and stop obsessing about two fighters he refused to fight. Despite the reasons, in both cases, it was HIS choice.

I personally think Manny will fight Mosely next regardless if Shane wins or lose. If Mayweather lost on points he would get his rematch but if he is knocked out, which I doubt, he won’t want a rematch. Why would Manny go through tough negotiations with Floyd if he can come to an easy agreement with Shane?

Generally, there’s an exception to the rule, for fighters who have been tested many times clean (like Manny Pacquiao) are excluded. Right? For the sake of other people arguments, Mosley had been tested negative but admitted that he was taking steroids, ‘coz I believe Mosley said that taking steroids didn’t do good for his skills and stamina. If Manny Pacquiao is taking steroids, but why his brother Bobby Pacquiao has never become a great fighter like his bro PacMan?

First of all, Im a pinoy(laking Tondo). Not all filipino are PACMAN FANS. I rate PBF higher than Pacman. PBF defense is the best in boxing of this era(if not all time). I don’t know why people keep saying he’s a runner. He makes you miss or/and parries your 1st&2nd shot and he’s still in front to give you counter shots. His shoulder rolls to avoid flash shots is the best. And after the fights, He’s has the cleaniest face(aka PBF) of all fighters in this era. ITS WHAT YOU CALL “SWEET SCIENCE”. Now, having said that if you ask me if PBF can beat PACMAN? its 100% NO!!! WHY YOU ASK? Its because of all PBF 40 fights, not once he showed weakness(FEAR). He always taunts and/or makes fun his opponents and he was never scared of them. BUT after he saw what PACMAN did to Cotto, even his DAD was scared for him. By asking for olympic style drug test, he just showed his weakness, he showed that he scared. Honestly I don`t see any KO`s in this fight let alone knock downs. Floyd`s game just doesn`t put him in situations where he can get hurt, he won`t exchange with you and picks his shots using his speed and defense. If Shane is too aggresive too early and runs out of gas he could be in trouble in the later rounds but I just don`t think Shane has the speed to apply pressure all night to Floyd, hope he proves me wrong.
I so want Mosely to KO PBF. If Floyd elevates his game to avoid Mosely’s power shots, it’ll be a long night. I can’t freaking wait for this. Mosely is a classy guy. Mayweather is an arrogant jerk-off.

Hate to break it to you buddy, Marquez was knocked down by pac at least 3 times in the two instances that they fought. Who cares what you thought was the righful winner. You were not one of the judges on those fights.
First of all Marquez beat Pacquiao twice and was cheated, why u think Pac-man needs steroids? Second, Mayweather will not loose against Mosely no matter what day and time and I’m a Mosely fan but this just will not happen.

A metaphor is born. It’s called a mayweather. It means ducking somebody or fighting somebody who does not have a good chance of beating you. It can be used as a noun as in ‘you are a mayweather’. It can be an adjective as in ‘Floyd Mayweather is a mayweather’. It can be a verb as in ‘Don’t mayweather somebody just because he is bigger than you’. It can be used in any part of the sentence as in ‘Did you hear about that mayweather guy who did a mayweather on the other mayweather?

I always assumed that you loved Money May since you hate Pac so much. Although I’m not a Pac fan myself I often find myself disagreeing with you but I actually have to agree with you on this one.
I think Floyd would retire like Tito and Prince Naseem did after their first loss. Both of them returned to the ring eventually though Prince only competed once more.
I also think too many people write off Mosley. Obviously their judgement is clouded by the fact that Floyd is undefeated. Well so was Prince Naseem, Felix Trinidad, Julio Cesar Chavez and so many more. Even Rocky Marcioano wouldn’t have retired undefeated if he hadn’t died in a plane crash at the peak of his career.
I sure hope that Mayweather gets his first loss because then he might finally take the risks of fighting fair competition and that would result in better fights for us boxing fans.
@Crazy, the difference between all those fighters and Floyd was that they were not good to begin with including Tyson i’m sorry and i’m a black man (black men all love tyson). But when he had his run he beat Michael Spinks and Larry Holmes who were cleraly over the hill when he fought them. Every big fight Tyson ever had he did not show up (Holyfield twice and Lewis twice). Vargas we all know his story, always out of shape and used steroids. Hell, even with the steroids he couldn’t get in shape.
It very clear to me that all the Floyd haters dont know s**t about boxing. Go through his entire career and you will see he was undersized in most of his fights, he is just too good.The only fight he had a true size advantage was against marquez and he did even try to bully him, he used his skills. He has only had two fight three fights at the welterweight division (micthell who was 155 when he walked in the ring, Baldomir who came in at 161, and marquez). All the other welterweight fights were at the junior welterweight division where even those guys had the weight advantage. In the two fights with Castillo Floyd came in on fight night at 138, however Castillo was 150 pounds in both fights. Corrales was clearly bigger. Against De la Hoya the fight was at 154 and Floyd was 147 pounds by the time he walked in the ring that night, while OLH was 168 at fight time. Before yall hate on the man get yall facts straight. He never use his physical tools besides footwork, and reflexes just smarts, so if he was bigger than anyone it wouldnt matter.

This article was based on a “WHAT IF” situation for Mayweather. How would Mayweather react? I think he would never be the same again. He is an insecure person to begin with, that’s why he talks trash all the time, and self doubt would be in his mind all the time. The same thing happened to Breland, Nunn, Vargas, and Tyson when he had to fight Holyfield. The doubt comes in when they know they are in the ring with someone who will give them the biggest challege. That’s why Floyd asked for the rematch clause. Usually the rematch clause is automatic for the champion, but FMJ is not a champion.
I can’t se mosley taking this. Fair enough he pulled a classic fight out his arse last time out but you all have short memories, 2 fights ago he was considered to be washed up and was behind going into the last round against and old slow b-class fighter in mayorga. Mayweather takes this easily for me all night long.

1. Jose Louis Castillo II- FLoyd 134- Castillo 135
2. Carlos Baldimoir- Floyd 146 Baldimoir
3. Oscar De La Hoya- Floyd 150- Oscar 154
Everyone else was within 1 lb with the acception of Hatton and Marquez 2 lbs.

You can argue if you want but Floyd fought Oscar at 154 who is bigger and probably was a skillful as Shane is now. Oscar may not have had the power Shane has now but he was just a skilled as him. (What you said is wrong)
Then, “You say Zap Judah was smaller than Floyd” that is not true. They weighed in a 146 Mayweather 145.5 Judah. The .5lbs is not noticable. By the way Judah had been fighting 145 and higher since 2004 when he fought Corey Spinks and he fought 6 fights in the Welterweight Division before he fought Mayweather. He even maxed out the WW limit at 147 a few times.( you are wrong again) Is there anything that you have said that have facts behind it.

Mayweather is the most natural athlete and purest boxer in the sport, he’s in the gym everyday. Mosley is the one who hasn’t fought since Jan 09 (16 Months come May 1st) and he’ll be 39, Mayweather last fought in Sept 09 (Less than 9 months.) Some of the writers on this website are ridiculous.

The Pac/Clottey fight may be boring but it was not Pac’s fault. Clottey hid in his turtle shell all night and Pacman enjoyed just hitting his gloves on purpose as if they were punching bags. Well at least , creditable or not, Clottey did not run. But for most of M;weathers fights he kept dancing, and clinching and running, so boring you won’t miss a thing even if you lined for your beer at the beer counter for 5 minutes. I am not sure if Mosley can do the tango because it takes two.

Is there really such a thing as fighters, fighting guys that are smaller than themselves? I thought that’s why we have weight classes. Floyds no different than any other fighter when it comes to trying to have the advantage when coming into a fight. I believe the only thing that separates fighters that are in the same weight class is their skill level. Pacquiao vs clottey is a prime example of the point I’m getting at. Clottey was naturally bigger, but pacquiao was obviously more talented. So much for SIZE advantage. Both fighters have great attributes, but it’s floyds skill level that puts him ahead of mosley, and when mayweather wins it won’t have anything to do with mosleys age or size, it will be because Floyd has fewer flaws than mosley. But to answer your question, if Floyd loses by devastating knockout, it won’t be about who he faces after that , but who mosley faces.
Don’t want to see a Mayweather split decision win based on running, pot shots and holding. I’d like to see a decisive knock out win for either fighter. That way Mayweather can chose not to execute the rematch clause. Winner fights Pacquiao. Save the revenge match for 2011.
If this really happen and Mayweather will opt out of a rematch then it would be a super mega fight for Mosley and Pacquiao. Manny Pacquiao would surely fight the winner of the Mayweather-Mosley encounter. Come May 1st, I hope there’s no sudden change of health or fitness that would cancel this fight.
