Pacquiao is in a no win situation against Clottey

By Franciso Chentango: I don’t know if people realize this or not but Manny Pacquiao is almost in a no win situation regardless of whether he beats challenger Joshua Clottey or not on March 13th. There’s a significant amount of people who will look at Pacquiao’s win – or loss – over Clottey and see it as evidence that Pacquiao is using performance enhancing drugs. Anyone with two eyes can see that Pacquiao is not using any performance enhancing drugs. He’s completely natural, but some people don’t see him like that and are pre-judging this great fighter.
The legacy of this whole fiasco that just took place in his failed negotiations with Floyd Mayweather Jr. has concluded with some boxing fans being firmly entrenched with the belief that Pacquiao is taking some kind of performance enhancing drug or another. You can’t reason with these people, because they’re going to believe that Pacquiao juicing no matter how much logic you throw at them.
If you tell them that Pacquiao has never been caught using steroids and/or growth hormone, they come back with ‘it’s only because he knows how to hide it with his designer drugs.’ If you try explain to them that Pacquiao doesn’t look like a person on steroids or growth hormone. They then shoot back and say that Pacquiao’s head has grown noticeably in the past couple of years.
Its ridiculous trying to reason with these people, because they’ve set an anchor with their beliefs about Pacquiao and see him as dirty. I don’t believe that they would have had their minds changed one bit if Pacquiao had taken the random drug tests that Mayweather requested. I bet some of them would still think that Pacquiao was hiding the drugs somehow in his system using some kind of bizarre growth hormone that’s undetectable to modern testing.
And the worst thing of all is whether Pacquiao wins or loses from now many of these same people are going to feel that it’s all because of Pacquiao juicing it. They won’t give Pacquiao credit for his wins because they don’t trust him. It’s pretty pathetic because people are judging Pacquiao, an innocent fighter, and condemning him based on guesswork. They think he’s dirty therefore he is in their minds.

MbfromPhilly……i have no problem with this drug testing issue. as a matter of fact i’m through it. everyone should be tested randomly. but you can not force a person to do some things that he’s not comfortable doing so. there are some alternatives that creates the same result. if i know that you don’t like burrito, and i forced you to eat it, would you do it? i think not. but it doesn’t mean that you never like mexican food. it’s just you don’t like burrito. i hope you get my point.

You missed my point completely. I’m not concerned about which test used in detecting the truth; my point is that only in such a corrupt sport like boxing would an athlete of Pacquaio’s stature, with this kind of horrible media storm surrounding him; stirring up all that we already know is wrong with boxing, not be held accountable! Look at Track and Field! Look at Cycling! The moment there’s speculation; the athlete is brought in and mandatorily tested! And then randomly tested at will thereafter.
i think the only people that doesn’t move on with this issue are the floyd’s fans. are you guys being jealous that pacquiao beat floyd in the fighter of the year award? more so fighter of the decade? you guys keep insisting he has to take the test otherwise he’s guilty. please stop that non sense. speciman…you seem to know a lot about PEDs, HGH, steroid. you are a very knowledgeable person in my opinion. do you know also that 99% of the PEDs available can be detected by urine analysis? i have no problem pacquiao taking random drug testing. he even agreed to unlimited/random urine anaylsis until the day of the fight. i don’t understand why people keep insisting that pacquiao refused any drug test. are they trying to ignore the fact or they just plain stupid?
The reason I won’t take the test is because I don’t need to. Mayweather is a nobody. He beat an old and overweight lightweight in 3 years and he’s making demands, puhlease. I can do anything and buy anything without another payday. I only fight because this is what I do. I fight to entertain and help my people.
If I take the test and it proves I’m clean then I beat Mayweather, what’s next? People will demand that I become a labrat. They will think I have adamantium bones or something that’s why I hit so hard. It will never end. If I don’t take the test, they will think that I’m a mutant. If Mayweather wants to fight, it will happen.
If Mayweather really wanted the fight, it would’ve happened just like the Marquez fight. He retires and comes back and wants to clean the sports. He says that Mosley is not PPV boxer and that there’s no money in there that’s why he won’t fight Mosley. Pacquiao moved on to Clottey and left Mayweather without an opponent. Only opponent he can pick better than Clottey was Williams, but he’s not gonna fight Williams. But he’s luck keeps running out, Mosley is available. He can’t fight someone smaller than Clottey, so he has no choice but to fight Mosley even though he’s not PPV boxer.

There is nothing good about having your legacy associated with PEDs. Retiring and running away may seem a good idea at the moment but these stories will leave on forever, and so will question marks over his record.
He has already tried running away once by taking on the Clottey fight (as quickly as he could) but have the questions gone away? NO!
Pacquiao should take the olympic-style random blood test and fight Mayweather to remove this stain while it’s still fresh.

Just when “Pac is real” thought everybody was moving on from this subject there is an article in “The Sun” newspaper by Colin Hart on drugs in boxing. And guess who’s name is most prominent in this article, Manny Pacquiao!
Colin didn’t even mention that Pacquiao walked away leaving $40 million on the table, but it still looks bad.

If his legacy was tarnished after what the Mayweathers did, then how come so many people are buying tickets in Pacman vs Clottey fight? How come most boxing writers and even boxing leagues thinks that Pacman is the undesputed best boxer of the decade even after those rumor?

What I mean is just like Olympics, boxing has rules too. And as of now, Olympic-style testing, no matter how good does it look, is not within the rulebook of boxing. So in the future, whether it is implemented or not in boxing, nobody really cares. Nobody even knows if MP will still be competing in those times. So whoever asks and forces their opponents about such tests NOW is either: a) a complete idiot thinking he can push anyone around, or b) a d-u-m-b boxing who thinks that he is playing in olympics.

Yes Mayweather started negotations with Mosley before Berto pulled out. And talk to Al Haymon if you want Mayweather and Williams to fight. I want them to, but I doubt Haymon does. Haymon is the manager for both Mayweather and Williams. If he let them fight each other one would lose, and therefore not be able to make as much in future bouts. And Mayweather has never turned down an opponent because they are “too good” like Manny did to Mosley!!!! You can’t turn down a fight because the other guy is “too good” and expect real boxing fans to consider you one of the best. People that don’t know anything about boxing might, but when you refuse fights because the other guy is too good, well the best don’t do that. The best want to fight the best. Based on my past post, u should understand why this is problem in boxing right now. Broaden ur mind & forget about Floyd may for a sec & realize there is a serious problem in our beloved sport of boxing that need to be discussed. The fact that Pbf started this discussion shouldn’t change ur mind ppl! No matter his motives & ambitions – which I know are for his personal profits- shouldn’t stop us from bringing up this problem that many boxing trainers around the country are faced with: PED’s. No one is saying no to starting a new phase of drug testing, and I agree they should. But as many before me has said, Floyd went about it the wrong way. He should have started as soon as he came back before fighting Marquez and he should have done it through the commission. If he did, nobody would be questioning his intentions now.
Contrary to all of u I’m not a blind fan! I admire pacquiao as much as I do Floyd. & I try to keep an open mind & stay neutral. Ur facts are rooted in ppl’s behaviors & ur faith in manny which I understand. Mines are based on years of training with fighters. Manny tested negative 2 days before he fought Morales the first time. This is an unannounced test and we can conclude that he was clean then. – FACT
He’s always had the power before he fought Morales, and this is what, along with his speed, was his greates artillery. We can also find a video floating around of Manny explaining about how he felt that that test caused him the fight. Is it too much to conclude that for a boxer who makes a living out of fighting will not want this to happen again? It’s actually quite understandable, like any other human being, bad experiences turns us off from wanting to go through it again. – FACT
He took a test (not sure how many days before the fight or if this was unannounced) before fighting Hatton and also came negative. He still destroyed Hatton. This is when Sr started making up stories about Manny being on PEDs. So the argument that Manny has been using PEDs to help him with his training can easily be debunked with this example – FACT
Why not random? From point 1, if you know or even think that it affects you, the next line of thinking is how much is it going to affect your training? This would have stuffed Manny’s preparation so bad. If you know you won’t have the best of preparations for the biggest fight of your career, would you risk it? Would you risk losing to the person who tried to tarnish your name and at the same time hand him the biggest payday of his life on top of that the bragging rights of saying that he beat you? So Mayweather’s “crusade” on steroids isn’t totally baseless! Just to be clear: I don’t know what what Mayweather’s reasons & motives are to start this enlightening campaign but I know based on facts that he isn’t wrong! Steroids & mostly Gh have become a serious issue with boxers. Many fighters, professional & amateurs are either using or plaining to use once things do go right. See back in the days when u got injured in training or were called to fight on short notice, boxers only had a plan A: train thru the pain or starve for days, do excessive cardio & road work -which left no time to work on sharpening technical skills. Now boxers have a plan B: take GH & winstrol which make u lose body fat & gain pure muscle in ur sleep, make u train twice harder, help u recover from a strenuous workout or a hard sparring in few half the time it previously took, prevent injuries, lubricate joints & last but not least: Boost ur testosterone level to race horse like level,along u very aggressive , motivated & feeling invincible…

Breaking News: No one knows steroids better than ” Olympic wrestlers, weight lifters, short distance runners & gymnasts! Coleman & his buddies changed the landscape in Mma. 1- they brought with them a large number of juiced up wrestlers looking for a substitute to pro wrestling & 2- theyade everyone else in MMA – boxers, kickboxers, grapplers, martial artists- to start using the junk just to keep up. By early & mid 2000 that phenomena started spreading to pro-boxing… Which ntil now was a very traditional, conservative, almost backward sport. Even today many boxing trainers do not believe in weight training or advanced nutrition technics. A new generation of boxers were attracted to the physical appearances, the explosiveness & the power of mma fighters. So they also started using PED’s!
but two party are guilty ,pac could have given floyd the coming over weight w/out a penalty ,if they try again its be no catch weight. but floyd only fight 1 a year .

I will not say until proven otherwise by the Olympic testing comission that Pacquiao is on PED’s but I don’t accept “fanatics” trying to use childish excuses to prove that Manny isn’t using them! Mayweather could drop his drug testing request but then Manny would think of something else to get out. This was never a problem until Floyd agreed to everything else Manny demanded. Manny never thought Floyd would agree to his other 6 demands so when he did, Top Rank and Manny didn’t try to negotiate the drug testing but came out and made a big deal out of it to the media. Why was it not a big deal at first? Why did Manny and Top Rank tell the media how unfair it was instead of trying to settle it with Floyd’s camp? Why did they say he was afraid of needles? Why did Manny lie and say hes superstitous about giving blood within 30 days of a fight? Why did Manny lie and say he wants to fight by the rules of every other boxing match? Why did they say they would be getting pushed around if they only got 6 out of 7 demands? Why does Manny’s head keep growing? Why did Manny insist he only refused because he won’t give blood the day of the fight, when he knew no one was asking him to? I would like to hear from Manny Pacquiao why he won’t agree to random blood tests and why he has lied repeatedly on this issue. His fans can get on here and say anything but people want to know why Manny won’t agree to this and he has yet to give a reason that isn’t a blatant lie.
How does anyone explain Roach telling Mosley that he’s too good for Manny? Why hasn’t Manny gave a reason thats not a lie as to why he won’t do random blood tests? Pacfans can get on here and say the tests wouldn’t show anything anyway, but they also said Manny was never scared of Mosley, that Mayweather made less fighting Baldomir than the deal Margarito offered (Baldomir’s camp gave the better offer financially), said that Manny was an underdog against everyone when he’s been an underdog one time since 2003, and that xylocaine is only legal in Nevada. But those are all lies. Roach told Mosley he was too good for Manny. Mayweather fought Baldomir because it paid him better than anyone else, xylocaine is LEGAL in all 50 states, Manny has been an underdog once since 2003 even though there have been plenty of opponents that would be favored over him. The fact is Manny lied about 4 or 5 times as to why he won’t take the test, said he wasn’t fighting Mayweather because he wouldn’t give blood the day of the fight when he wouldn’t have to for 14 days and Manny’s head keeps growing. Now Manny is fighting in Texas where there are no drug tests. What a coincidence Manny chose to fight somewhere that doesn’t do any drug testing not even urine. Now he doesn’t have to worry about cycling or cleansing his system he can have all the PEDs he wants.
Mayweather wants to be the ‘Olympic Drug Crusader’ then he needs to get off Xylocaine first.

to answer your question, blood testing is not as simple as you might think. before they draw someone’s blood, it has to be in a confined place because the risk of contamination. you can not draw your blood anytime anywhere they want.
one more thing, blood testing does not have the ability to detect artificial HGH. artificial HGH came from outside source(DOPING). only urine analysis can do that.

Honest Pacfan, I understand the point of your last post but you open the door to the simplest of all the questions: why won’t Pacquaio put the rumor to rest and simply take the test? Yes we know he could still cheat, but there is obviously something more that he doesn’t want his fans to know. Every other organized sport would’ve already had a conclusive answer to our suspicions.

I think the lack of education on PED detection given the extent to which this subject has been discussed is ASTOUNDING. First, the current testing system is for show only. In truth, anyone can submit a false sample under today’s guidelines. Blood testing is better than urine, but even that, while dramatically increasing the chances of finding PED use, does not 100% guarantee detection.
Just fight Mayweather problem over win or l……..

So I see both sides of the debate. Now this is just my opinion. Manny enters the ring at the high 140’s. He’s not a true welterweight. At his physical size he should be fighting at 140-135. Of course, he has every right to refuse anything that is not mandated by the commission. He has every right to fight only by his terms and NEVER has to agree to the terms of any other boxer. Every boxer has that right. But as well, you, his fans, nor him has the right to tell others what to think of the decision he made. I get what you’re saying and I agree with you. If one were to ask do I think Olympic style drug testing is better than what is currently in place by the Nevada State Athletic Commission I would say, yes. As stated Manny could of shut down everyone by simply taking the test. However, he does not want to take the test and refuses to do so he has every right to. Do I personally think that Floyd thinks Manny is on PED’s? No, Floyd was ok with testing 14 days before the fight. That right there tells me that Floyd himself doesn’t believe that Pacquiao is on any illegal substances. So why would Floyd do that? In my opinion it’s either,
1. He wants a way out of the fight. He knows he can beat Pacquaio but if there’s anyone with a punchers chance to give him a loss, it’s Manny and that zero loss record is important to him.
2. He wants to bring some negative attention towards Manny while brining attention to himself.
3. He wants to create controversy and drama to hype the fight up even more so when they finally fight they make even more money than the projected 40 million they were both estimated to make.
I personally think it’s reason 3 and if you see myself making derogatory comments about Floyd it’s because I am more of a Pacquiao fan than a Floyd fan. So when people start making their Pacquiao bashing comments as a fan I’m compelled to defend him and point out what I feel Mayweather does wrong. However I’m not biased if I agree with someone’s opinion I agree. In the NBA I’m a Warriors fan and if someone says the warriors suck, I agree.
Pacquiao has his flaws as well. I said this before his fight with Cotto. If Pacquiao wants his belt then Pacquiao should fight him at 147. Not to discredit his victory over Cotto as I think Pacquiao still would have won at 147 but I felt that it was wrong to ask Cotto to put his belt that he earned at 147 on the line at a catch weight of 145. I felt that Cotto should have stood up for himself in that situation and not let Pacquiao dictate the rules.
They both have their flaws. I just call it like I see it regardless of whom I am a bigger fan of.

It is truly a shame that we have to see these other matches as oppose to the fight all boxing fans wanted to see. Everyone has a right to their opinions, that what blogging and posting comments are all about, but the name calling and baseless accusations are unwarranted, childish and frankly have nothing to do with the matter at hand. In my OPINION, I just saw this as an opportunity for Manny to whoop PBF and also bolster his defamation case, as well as have his image undamaged by just taking the test. Regardless of Floyd’s tactics, this was a chance for the PEOPLE’s champ to stand up for INTEGRITY, instead, all we got from his camp were inconsistent stories and a lot of devoted fans arguing based on something besides the matter at hand.
When Mosley used “The Clear” and “The Cream”, there was a trail of evidence to follow. Because these items are not “homemade”, they are manufactured by laboratories. That’s why Victor Conte of BALCO got involved in the investigations. They even keep receipts and log names of people who uses it.

Aka ERG HAHAHA I respect your opinion. My thing is now Pacquiao haters and there are a lot of them are accusing him of being a cheater just because Floyd said so. While it is true he could have shut them up by simply agreeing to take the test, the thing is he shouldn’t have to do it. Especially since Floyd never asked anyone of his previous opponents to do it. Yes I am indeed a Pacquiao fan but I don’t think he can beat Floyd. If they fight I’ll be rooting for Pacquaio all the way win or lose.
Another thing if both of them make it past Mosley and Clottey which I hope they do then I will revert back to my original thought on this matter. The timing was bad, the public wanted the fight, so it had to be discussed between both camps but to be real a fight of this magnitude should happen later in the year rather than March. I also think Floyd is a smart business man and is aware that controversy and having the fight in fall will make a lot more money than having it on March 13th.

Unfortunately, PEDs and EPO can cycle out of your system in as little as 48 hours, as well masking agents can return inconclusive results for test, so the test after the fight can be beat. This test has been administered by most boxing commissions and proven to be totally ineffective in detecting if a boxer used PEDs during their training. PEDs are most effective for training to enhance stamina and the strength of athletes, it’s not so much for the day of the event, as it is to build yourself up for the event. There is a big difference. Again, I’m not accusing Paquiao of anything, I’m just stating the FACTS for how tests are beat by athletes, even in the Olympics. If the tests are not totally RANDOM, any test can be beat, even random test are beat, because their is a grace period that olympic athletes have and they can even miss a test as long as it is made up within 24 or 48 hours, which again, is really NOT random. As far as the rules to boxing matches, commissions only set standards that can not be broken, but the rules are dictated by the terms of the contracts that are signed between the 2 camps. Anything can be in these contracts if the 2 parties agree.
So the point is … if you have the GREATEST 40m FIGHT EVER coming, IT IS NOT THE TIME TO BE SELF RIGTHEOUS. Just do the dance with your partner on this prom ball. JUST FIGHT. Sadly not for Floyd.

Loss to Baldomir, loss to Margarito, and loss to Cotto. So like I said the majority isn’t always right; as for this situation with Pacquiao and the blood test I said this before, the argument of the test being not required by the NSAC Is not relevant, because Paqacuio’s camp agreed to a 24 day cut-off date; the real arguement is the cutt-off date.
Why 24 days, why not 14? Is 14 days not enough time to recover from giving blood? That’s the question.

Pacman is not against any blood testing required by the Nevada Boxing Commission or of any boxing organization. He is against any rule that is not a requirement. Non-required testing must be irrelevant, especially that which is made by a boxer-opponent like Mayweather. He is really scared of Pacman.
Francisco, literally and figuratively, I have two eyes and I cannot detect whether Pacquiao has been taking performance-enhancing drugs, and I don’t think that you can do so either. You cannot be absolutely certain that Manny has been drugwise clean; you and I can just hope that he has been innocent as he has been saying. While I continue to believe that Manny is an exceptionally excited and talented fighter, I am still disappointed that a fighter of his international recognition, fame, and standing, has refused to submit himself to a simple and harmless test. His decision has helped to create serious doubt about him in the minds of hundreds of thousands of his fans, including myself. Actually, I strongly feel that he has contributed significantly to his being in a ‘no win’ situation.

Pacquiao agreed to take the blood test after the fight. Will any trace of PED vanish without a trace after a fight? I don’t think so… and I bet Floyd knows that & his playing with Manny’s head. Pacquiao a superstitious person and no amount of science will convince him that getting a little blood is ok. If the purpose of Floyd is to make sure that the fight is clean… why don’t both of them agree that whoever is on PED and Xylocaine should surrender his share of the money to the other guy. All successful athletes have gone through with speculations of PED use. I would like for all professional athletes to have random drug tests. But I disagree with Mayweather’s stance. He is dictating the rules of engagement. He would not agree to the Nevada state commisssion running the test(s). He would not agreed to Pacquiao taking tests at least 14 days before the fight and immediately AFTER the fight. If you were taking PEDs, do you not think that it would show up in a post fight blood test? Look at all the athletes in Olympic sports. They were found positive for PEDs with post fight URINE and blood tests, and usually not during random blood test. Mayweather wants the money, but not necessary the risk of losing, and maybe losing in a bad way. He’ll find a way to stall and set up excuses for his post fight interviews. If pacquiao wins and his tests are clean, my guess is Mayweather would make excuses- his ribs still hurt, his hands were injured, or the referee got in the way… and so on.

Pacquiao doesn’t need to prove anything or agree to Mayweather’s demands. Second, he doesn’t need another big payday. He’s already wealthy enough that his grandson’s grandson doesn’t need to work. Your arguments sound convincing but lack merits. Beside, Pac is one of a kind. He fights not only in the ring but in the courts of law. INNOCENT until proven guilty.
If Mayweather was not scared of Pacman, he should have allowed the existing boxing regulations made and approved by the most respectable people in boxing to prevail. If Pacman would give in to the dictates of his opponent, he is already a loser right there and then. Those who say that Pacman let go of the $40 million are blind by not seeing that it was Mayweather who let that opportunity go by imposing his will over the set rules in professional boxing.
